[Mk2] [Turbo] Forged Pistons

Post by bennyboi88 »

Found 3 different brands but which is most reliable?
JE
Wiseco
CP

opinions? My guess is they will all be more than enough for the 350-400whp I want to run in the end but still am a bit confused as all are similarly priced... Also what are the stock con rods rated to?
If i recall correctly the stock rods are all ready forged and good for 500+ but aftermarket rods are a bit lighter...
All three makes are very high quality, and on a properly built engine that has been properly mapped will easily run the power levels you are talking about and much much more.

Some people have a preference for certain makes over others, Wiseco have a nice coating on the outside of the pistons from memory.

At the end of the day you need to base your choice on spec, so what compression ratio do you want to run, who makes that compression ratio (or closest to it), what size bore do you need, etc etc.

I've had two engines built with 86mm and 86.5mm wiseco pistons in 9:1 compression, which once built came out to about 8.7:1.

My current engine was built with CP pistons (as they do 5S sizes) with a compression ration of 8.5:1, which came out to ~8.3:1 once built.

If you are pulling the motor to bits you would be mad not to replace the rods for Eagles. They are SO much lighter than stock.

Sorry but I would never use anything made by Eagle, most if not all their parts are made in China and are very cheap.
Stick to stock rods or get a good make.

If you want Eagle I do have a new set of rods for sale :D

Agreed. Our top engines get Carrillo rods.

That is right, some are good and some are not.

As far as I can see almost everyone uses Eagle, and never seen anything about problems with them

Yeah think thats solved my issue of what pistons to use! So are the eagle rods really that bad for around a 400bhp build? Is it worth going eagle over stock or are carrillo the only way for real peace of mind?

Are you going with the Cosworth pistons? Could you post up some pics when you get them if you are?

Ill be honest I will have to consult with Luke at p,works and (i think its century motorsport) who do the builds for him before making the definitive choice, but i always like to buy british made plus its quite a cool name brand to have on the car
