power steering fluid

Post by jasongtr »

ive done a search and its not conclusive that i can see.

im about to possibly change the rack (may just be the arm)

but if it is the rack then ill change the fluid also obviously.

so the question, does it need to be special for electro systems, some posts ive seen suggest yes and others state any ps fluid.

if special, is it toyota only

It should be electro-hydraulic fluid, not ordinary stuff.

Doesn't necessarily have to be from Toyota though.
Many have used EH fluid from Peugeot (for the 307).

as above it should be electro hydraulic...but normal red hydraulic works fine..ive been using it for years with no issues....the system is essentially the same as any other system minus the fact that pump is powerd by electric rather than a belt.

EHPS fluid has a different viscosity to "normal" PAS fluid as electric motors don't like pumping thick oil.

That's why EHPS systems should use EHPS fluid.

£25 ish. Enough for 2 fills. Seems reasonable.

If anyone wants OEM fluid, enough for one fill, PM me, i'll ship what's needed.

I looked into the Peugeot ehps fluid and found a post saying that the specs of the Toyota and Peugeot fluid are quite different, I think I'll stick to oem just to stay on the safe side, besides a new power steering pump is ridonkulously expensive from Toyota.

Does anyone know of an easy way to drain the system?

I'd be interested in this also, if end up keeping the car which it looks like then I'll be changing it for piece of minds sake
