Neil (Neil_turbo) was competing in the Sprint Series this last weekend at Woodbridge in Suffolk. I have done a lot of work on this car and decided to go along to see how he got on.
It was the first time this car has been out competitively with the 3SGTE fitted so it was a case of taking it sensibly and to start to learn the car and to see if it held up reliability wise under sprint conditions.
But Neil had a further worry, he was due to fly out to China very early on Monday morning so he really didn't need any hassle getting to and from the event in an unproven car. So he decided to do the sensible thing and hire a car transporter to get the car to and from the event.
We set off on Saturday afternoon and everything was fine at first. Then three quarters of the the way there the right hand indicator came on independently of the stalk position and couldn't be switched off. So we must have pi$$ed a lot of people off but there was nothing we could do to make it stop.
We stopped off at a Travelodge about 30 miles short of Woodbridge and had a decent nights kip. On the way to Woodbridge in the morning the bloody indicator came on again and wouldn't stop and we decided that it we couldn't fix it for the return journey we'd just disconnect the relay and use hand signals.
Got to Woodbridge and the car performed faultlessly all day . Neil was taking it conservatively and building up slowly, he just wanted to get through the day without incident and have a platform on which to build. The only issue was with the twin plate cluch, it's like a switch off or on. Neil just could not get the car off the line properly.
It started raining after Neils 7th run, so we decided to make an early get away and forsake the 8th run so that we coiuld get home at a reasonable time so Neil could pack for China and we could get home in time to watch Match of the Day.
About two hours from home and BANG engine blew up good and proper on the car transporter There are things poking out of the cylinder head on No 2 cylinder that shouldn't be.
We have no indicators and we were on the A14 without a hard shoulder, it was really bloody scary till we could get the relay reinstalled to get the hazard lights working again. The highways agence despatched a car from Watford Gap that eventually turned up and moved us to a place of safety.
After god knows how many hours and after multiple phone calls we finally had someone arrive that could pick the whole rig up for us.

We wanted to obviously go North but they took us South to Northampton where we were to get a hire car from Enterprise to get us home. Got to Northampton and got a message from Enterprise saying that didn't have a car available in Northampton, we'd have to get further South to Milton Keynes under own our steam. How the hell was I going to do that at nearly midnight??????
Eventually decided to take the trackcar off the trailer and take that home. It was gone 1.30am when we got to Neil's and gone 2am by the time I got home.
Oh the Irony! :wall:

Did you not think about towing the breakdown truck with the sprint car?
