When fitted this area will trap oil as the engine is layed over by 20deg.
It is being removed.
All ready to be welded once the plate comes

Well at last I have got Steve to help clear up the workshop, almost, and have got a nice clear part with new work bench just for me.
He is away at this big dinner thing on Saturday, Jap feast or something so will have time to complete the work to the piston tops, then the first trial build to see if the pistons pop out the top of the bores or hit the oil squirters.
We have an engine stand on it way over that will allow the engine to be run up in the workshop, I am going to have to sort out the engine wiring for that as soon as its here as we have one or two engine builds to run up.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Starting build
As you should all know by now I never buy anything made in China or sold on Ebay, so this is my charge cooler made in the USA and sized for 1000hp

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Starting build
Very nice.
What size is the piping on it? 3", or does it has to be larger than that for 1000bhp?

Yes 3", should be ok for my 650hp

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Starting build
Surprised you went for the twin pass instead of the single pass cc Bob
What pump are you planning to use with it? I'm planning on switching up to a Precision core when I upsize turbo- they look like quality pieces of kit

It was cheap, only £350 so I got it. I can change how many passes by welding on some fitting on the back.
I am going to use 2 pumps, one at the front and one at the back and 25 or even 30mm pipe.
As you know I collect things when they come along cheap so this is just a starting point

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Starting build
Makes sense- that was cheap! Why two pumps? Wouldn't you be better of with a single, high volume pump instead?

New charge coolers are $1000-$1500
Two high volume pumps will give a greater flow overcoming high resistance in the coils and pipe work

Having a look at build threads now that my engine is blown and will need rebuilt.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Starting build
Right, got some work done on my crank before it goes off for balancing.
Back in the 1970/80s when using nitrous on Ford 4 cylinder engines they would shear off their flywheel bolts. We also just had in the workshop a C2 super 16 engine that had done the same.
The flywheel bolts are under compression, they clamp the flywheel to the crank but they are very poor at shear, they are not designed to stop the flywheel from turning on the end of the crank and the bolts will shear off very easily.
So two high grade steel pins are now fitted to the crank that will stop any chance of the flywheel turning on the end of the crank.
This should be done on any high output engine.

Bit of development testing on Sunday.
We will be building these cars once we get then to stop and corner.
Only been in the car once for 10 min, and new track never driven on before
