Correct Battery?...

Post by riot68 »

When I bought the MR2 it had been stood for a few years and the guy who sold it had put in a new battery to get it started. However it doesn't seem to be very big compared to where it fits and I have had some trouble when it's not been used for a few weeks that it's flat and needs charging. What's the correct spec/size for the battery and best place to pick one up? Am I best to go to Mr T?...

I believe the correct one is 005 60A/H, Halfords sell them for £85 or £95 depending which one you go for (one has a 3 year warranty the other has a 4 year warranty).

I have read on here that Toyota are the cheapest place (around £50-£60) but have never checked this for myself.

I found the bits to my clamp where the last guy changed the battery, doesn't seem to fit which is another reason why I thought it may have the wrong battery...

Mine passed mot with battery squashed in via dvd case the other weekend but its still not right.

Oh yea i spoke to someone at work who used to.own a rev2 turbo and he said he used blocks of wood to keep his battery tied in!

generally the battery fits just perfect with the little holder thing.

I'm quite tempted to make a alloy battery holder.. :?

I have a piece of wood under the battery clamp so it clamps the battery as it should.

Doesn't move.

Gotta love DIY efforts \:D/

You think people would buy a custom fit battery holder for the mr2?

I didn't, although you'd think the standard clamp would, you know, clamp a battery

No i know you appear to have used a piece of wood. I'm just wondering whether if someone made a alloy battery holder whether people would buy it.

Doubtful, it's not in a place you see it so it being pretty and shiny doesn't work.

I know someone who makes these battery clamp bars, which are great in an engine bay if you like that sort of thing, but a bit pointless in a frunk under a bit of plastic and a spare wheel!

Besides, as has been alluded to in the thread, if you have the right battery then the clamp fits and it's all hunky dory. Toyota are not expensive for batteries (cheaper than Halfords for example) and they come with a warranty. It's not a complicated one...
