Welder required in Derby / Midlands who knows their way around a MR2.

Post by Damian »

Hello.

I'm sick and tired of paying decent money for crap welding work only for more holes to appear a few months later.

I need a good welder in Derby / Midlands who knows their way around an MR2 who will be able to give me an honest response as to whether they can do the work required.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Tom?

Icunonosove (sp)

Though, if it's floor pan type stuff, I doubt he'll be keen.

He knows a little bit, yes.

I'll likely see/speak to him in the next day or so, will try to remember to mention it.

Great stuff, thank you.

Would be really helpful to have somebody who knows what they are talking about looking / working on it rather than local mechanics just bodging it every year.

That's well worth knowing Bill O:)

Buxton is not a million miles from me

My car is getting to the stage where it needs some quality restoration

hi , i have now sorted Damian floor pan out , it looked quite solid around the drivers foot well but as we all know under seal hides many sins and this was a big one .

pics

made the repair panel out of 3mm plate and welded in .

Image
the sunroof drain tube as now been moved to drain water away from inside the sills and on to road .

inner floor pan was shot so this was plated and sealed .

Hope there isn't so much hidden rot on mine

As far as I know I only have the usual areas of rot, behind the sills, rear arches, bottom of front wing & top rail above windscreen

Car has had some average type welding behind sills in previous years

It passed MOT in Feb this year

Trouble is, Peter, if you don't deal with it, it will just get worse, that's an absolute certainty.

MK1's are getting on now and that lovely Italian metal that Toyota used in the 80s is coming to back to bite us.

That looked alot like mine used to. Wish i had someone do it for me. It would have saved all my burn scares.
