Quick question as done search and results seem to contradict themselves.

I would say you cannot swap the whole assembly over due to wiring issues.
The cluster will need stripping down to remove the speedo assembly's. This is straight forward to do.
The correct uk spec mech speedo to fit will have to be the exact same spec one that matches your JDM speedo.
ie. Both speedo's must be from a power steering car as bits are attached to the mech speedo head that control the P/S pump. This needs to be correct otherwise your steering will not shut down or change pressures at speed, or actually work at all if incompatable.
If you have no power steering on the JDM car then there won't be an issue.
