Now that would be epic! i have had a supra TT6, with minor mods 400hp and in an mr2 that would be crazy!

Yeah i know, a bloody Mk2, but i looked at all V12 options and thought, we're gonna need a bigger boat.

:D

For a minute then I thought it was going into a Mk1 untill I read this bit lol

The engine is probably almost bigger than a Mk1

Now your talking! :)

The V12 has landed so let the games begin! We got to work sorting some fundamentals of the swap, now ignore the grot on this engine, we aren't bothered about that for the time being, this engine is being used as a test mule to make everything from. When the time comes for it to run we will strip it and rebuild it, but until then it only has to be dimensionally right.

First issue we found was the throttle bodies were facing the wrong way, well wrong for an Mr2 engine bay, so luckily for us we found that BMW have made the plenums symmetrical, not only that but they have unboltable ends, meaning you can bolt the throttle bodies on the other end of the plenum and the cover plates on the throttle end.... how cool is that? So we will have that Lambo'esque twin air filters shooting rearwards in the engine bay.

Here's the blanking plates fitted to the normally throttled end...

Image

Here you can see the Tb fitted to the normally blanked end (yellow)... tp fit the other side i need to move the oil filler spout, no biggy.

Image

Work then began on making this leviathan shorter, it's too long at the moment, much as i like sitting close to the windscreen i'd prefer not to have my nose squashed against it. This meant ditching the distributors, a good 2 inches saved here.....

Image

We aren't bothered about how far forward the crank pulley sits, that's in the tunnel so it can please itself.

Lastly we will need to make blanking plates for the distributor holes...

I've also go a plan to ditch the water pump and run an electric remote one.

Really interesting to read and follow this along.
Just out of curiosity, how heavy is all of this going to be over standard ?

If you get the facelift engine, the oil filler is where the cam chain runs instead of on the rocker covers.

Are you running seperate coil packs instead of the distributors then?

PS, just took my 750 out for a run, makes peoples head turn more than any car I have owned, the noise is unmistakeable.

The engine is all alloy so nice n light, probably no heavier than an iron block 3s-gte.

Yep dizzys are gone so I'll be running coilpacks

January 2014
..the only thing I can promise for sure is slow progress.

May 2015
just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...

How heavy does a 3S go? A quick bit of googling suggest the beemer lump is :

M70
V12 SOHC 24V. 1988-1994. 155kg 341lbs
Used in E32 750il, 850i
5.0 (300bhp)

Which I must admit is lower than I thought, an extra 8 pistons, conrods etc.

Hello mate, good to see you still around!

Slarty i have a fully laden rev3 3s-gte at 182kgs, that's 27kgs heavier than the BMW V12, make no mistake the 3s is a heavy lump with all of its extra turbo stuff and fully laden.

This build is not about weight or BHP output (which is relatively low), just about being able to say it has been done. It's a similar mission to the Top Secret V12 Supra, but with less space!

Ill always be around until I die in some horrific high speed accident in my car :)

Couldnt you just slice the car in half and extend the wheel base? Maybe make the backend wider too, a bit zonda looking haha, fair bit of work, but would look pretty mad and you could fit in the cockpit easier.

Dont get me wrong, I imagine theres alot of problems with regards to strengthening and making panels up, just throwing it out there.

Graeme, Extreme already do exactly that on their Mr2 Murcielago replica builds, they cut the car and move the rear strut towers back by about 11" i think, this makes the engine bay 11" longer.

I could fit any engine into that bay, literally anything, but it's no longer an Mr2 chassis and not really a challenge.

Yeh i know where your coming from with the originality of the car, but its a bit extreme when your using the engine as an arm rest while your driving lol :)

Nothing wrong with that lol. This conversion is perfect for the Lamborghini conversion! What is the gearbox out off?
