[Mk2] [Turbo] Rebuild options

Post by Turbolad »

I need to change my block due to it cracking

It was fully forged, clevite bearings and arp bolts throughout. Can I swap all this into a new block, obviously after getting the bores correct for the pistons too.
Will the piston rings need redoing?
Also will all rev3 stuff go into a rev2 block?

new piston rings.

I wouldn't reuse the bearings unless you can prove with plastigauge they are ok for purpose.

the arps will all be ok to re-use (I think)

bearings are cheap enough to replace i guess tho. Piston rings arent as bad as i thought either. I hear a lot of good things about total seal rings
cheers

I have totalseal gapless top rings, and I had to use two sets to get them right, make sure the honing instructions are followed EXACTLY. First time I didn't and ended up with a pants seal.

I now have something like 3-5% leakdown after 3000 miles.
