[Mk2] [NA] Starter Motor..possibly?

Post by smallia16 »

Finally got the mr2 taxed yesterday  only to come home and for it not to start... immediately thought it was an immobiliser fault... but upon further investigation, would seem the imobiliser adn alarm is functioning properly. As with the immob armed nothing happens at all when key is turned to start position, however with the immob disarmed, upon turning the key to start position i am met with a humm type noise from behind, presumably the starter motor failing? I've tried charging the battery and jump starting just in case, however all seems to point to starter motor or relay... but i have no clue and its raining now :( Feel really let down at the moment! ](*,)

any help would be greatly appreciated

Stopped raining and thought i'd test the relay... think it is an immobiliser problem after all, bridged the 2 large wires on the relay and the starter turns fine with the ignition on... however obviosuly doesnt fire... i believe the alarm/immobiliser is perventing it  but that leaves me in an even worse situation, cause i haven't the foggiest idea of where to start, i've located the alarm/immobiliser unit etc. but really don't have a clue where to start after that, looks professionally installed too... very neat install all wrapped up etc.

Alarm is a Serpi Star GR48T if that helps

That sounds like a job for a pro mate...re-post this thread in the electrical section, you may get the quick fix that your looking for...blown fuse etc

Thanks :)
i called out an auto electrician in the end cause i'm in no way electrically minded, i can do elctronic stuff like, but i dont like playing with important stuff... like alarms & immobilisers and the sort!

Turned out the alarm/immobiliser was fine!
Bad earth on the relay! :( really should've thought to check that

all good now and finally got out in the car today... YAY!!

I had exactly the same problem a few days ago!

I did write up in the 'electrical' section to let people know what i'd suffered and found out.
