strange door locking problem, and where would a boost controller be?

Post by neoeire »

hi all, finally starting to get places with my new tubby,
but a few days ago my drivers door stopped locking the passenger door..

central locking has basically gone mad?
all doors lock as usual when i lock the car from the passenger side, i try and lock or unlock the drivers door and its only the driver side that works.
the central locking button on the door card also works correctly..

some1 said that it could be the sensor? but no clue even if it has one... or where it is, i have a rev1 jap import 1990 mr2 turbo.

also, i noticed the standard boost gauge in 2nd gear and i think in 3rd, the needle goes way past the top of the +, so am i right in thinking that im boosting more than standard and there could be a boost controller somewhere on it? she does have a strong boost, but i have nothing to compare and its my 1st 2, so no idea if its ment to be this strong, but i will be fitting some new gauges i got after holidays (52mm plasma psi gauge and air/flow), so i will be able to tell how far the boost goes upto...

--plus another question, i read on a gt4 site that the best place to put the vacuum pipe for accurate readings is somewhere behine the inlet manifold, a pipe plugged up... any ideas if this is correct? and where exactly?

thanks all in advanced

The central locking problem (from experience) could be down to the wires shorting where they pass through the door jam - after 20 years of opening and closing! Solution is to test each wire with a meter and repair as necessary or replace the door loom as a whole.javascript:emoticon('')

The stock boost gauge does go off the top of the clock on full boost but only from 3rd gear onwards.

1st & 2nd gear boost is limited to three quarters of full boost.

If there's no obvious electronic boost controller in the cabin you may have a manual one installed in the engine bay, it'll be coming off the turbo housing and be located around by the airbox / filter area.

kool ill check them areas when i get back home after holidays, she is def boosting over the max mark in 2nd... she does look standard, and only had a bov and lowered when i got it 4 months ago(bov saped for recir as fuel eco was bad)

also, she is very thirsty too, especially when the turbo kicks in, and when u stop the engine after theres a strong smell of fuel, but i have checked everything for leeks...

as for the looking problem, wouldnt that also affect the passenger door being able to lock the car? and the interior central locking switch as they all still work for locking all doors, its just the key in the drivers door only locks the drivers door now...

but i will check the wiring when im home with a meter...

Every mr2 i've had has had the central locking problem... I think it's down to an aftermarket alarm/remote CL being fitted and possibly removed at some point.

it can also be the switch in the door lock mechanism (drivers side) i bet your car will lock both doors on the passenger side when using the key

any1 got any pics or a way for me to id the switch to check it out and get a replacement as theres an mr2 at the scrap yard now?

plus, any1 have any ideas about the best placement for the vacuum pipe for a boost gauge (plasma 52mm) that i heard of on the back of the inlet manifold... its ment to be blocked off or something and give the most accurate readings...

Just been reading a few items relating to the door issue. As ive got one on mine to. However its slightly different. It does lock the doors as mentioned doing it from the passenger side..not drivers.Or using the lock door switch inside. However i cant get it to work at all with the plip.

Any ideas,

Thanks,

Hi guys,

I had the same issue. Ive just tried a straight forward fix mentioned by another member....for the central locking issue. Hold both buttons down by the car for 5 seconds... This should reset the system. Worked a treat on mine just this second.

woohoo
