Toyota Mr2 Rev 1 T-bar - taxed and tested will be deeply missed.

Post by knaggsy »

It is sadly the time for me and my beloved mr2 to go our separate ways, I’d just like to say I have adored this car every single day I've owned it.

The car is a 1991 G-limited T-Bar with the Rev 3 engine, front and rear bumpers fitted with 17inch Black Team Dynamics Monza alloy wheels. I have a good majority of the english history of the car including bills for work done and all past MOT certificates for its UK life. The car runs very well and I have always kept her in good condition both mechanically and cosmetically. The car has lived at some point in the same area as rouge motor sport and has had some work done there including clutch changed and bits and pieces. In the last year of ownership I have spent around a thousand pound on the upkeep of her including 4 recent tyres and tracking done, new fancy Sony head unit with USB port, Ipod connectivity etc. Over Christmas time she wasn't too happy about starting in the snow so I fitted an entire new ignition system including leads, rotor arm, distributor cap, NGK spark plugs and a new ignition coil. After a quite patch at work I begun a service of the car including engine coolant change and EBC front brake pads and nice cool white headlight bulbs fitted along with a new set of Bosch windscreen wiper blades, however work then picked up again and I didn’t get chance to do the other little bits including oil and filter change, fuel filter and rear brake pads (I have the parts and they will be included in the sale)With being imported in 2001 the car is still rust free! Car also has a remote central locking and alarm fitted by autowatch, has an expensive looking induction kit and has been de-catted (not an issue for the mot as car is 1991) and has a short shift kit.

I think my car is in good condition inside and out but it is not perfect the one or two little niggles include a small chip on the front bumper, electric aerial does not work but apparently it was a new motor fitted just not wired in ( this is what the previous owner told me I didn’t really look into it to be honest because it works fine using the old fashioned pushing it down if you don’t want to see it), in very heavy rain the drivers side T-bar seal lets one drip of water every minute or so fall into the cabin. Also the electric folding mirrors to not retract in but the glass moves off the switch fine, I think possibly the wing mirrors could be from a UK car? as there is a very slight difference in colour (honestly not noticeable if you don’t get a good look). The mechanic at work also said the handbrake is a bit higher then he'd expect but it holds the car absolutely fine and has never been mentioned on MOT. And of course the obligatory driver’s side bolster is worn. These points aside I believe it is a very honest and lovely looking example.

The car is taxed and mot'd up to around September if memory serves me right. I have owned BMW's, Alfa Romeo's and everything in-between but this car has been my absolute favourite and I would have kept her forever but me and my wife are expecting our first child and try as i might to make up excuses to keep the car I am losing the argument : (
This being the case I will be replacing the MR2 with something a bit more sensible (open to offers on part exchange cash either way etc, could even include the wife's ford Ka if anybody is interested as the plan is to get rid of the two cars and just replace it with one.) I'm bound to have missed something in the description but if there’s anything you’d like to know just ask.The milage is around the 90,000 mark but is used on a weekend so will go up a little bit.

I paid £1200 for the car and would like my money back considering i have spent quite alot on her i think this is a fair request.

Thanks for reading the add and i hope she can find a good home.

Not for me fella, I'll have to be pried away from my own rev1, but I think it'll be better for your sale if you add price, mileage and history. Good luck with your sales and the new family....

Why has it got a rev 3 engine? You say it's a 91 rev 1 but it's got rev 3 rear lights, rev2+ front splitter and i thought H was 89/90 ? It's also got full leather, i could be wrong here, but i thought only uk cars had full leather? Looks like a nice car btw, i'm just interested in those bits cause i'm a nosey sod and they night help you selling it :thumleft:

Hello mate always happy to talk MR2's -

Its a G limited import hence the leather and aircon etc, 1991 is a H reg and the rev 3 engine would have been fitted at somepoint in its life to increase power output and probibly done at the same point as the rev 3 bodywork enhancement would be my guess anyhow.

Oh right, thought perhaps you'd done it all yourself. Always say you learn something new every day, I never knew G-Ltds had full leather. :thumleft:

G-lim's didn't come with leather but did come with climate control, retract mirrors and front steering fogs.

Full leather seats came from UK cars only, so at some point the stock cloth with have been ripped out and UK leather seats fitted :thumleft:

Well, our G-Ltd has cloth seats, and I'm glad of that - hate those leather seat farts when you slide in!

Found out (from MR2OC) that our Rev 2 also has a Rev1 front bumper, from an..."observant person"... I wouldn't have known the difference, quite frankly, and to be absolutely honest, I couldn't give a hoot! It looks triffic to me, and I've waited a long time to get my hands on an auto version, love the way it drives, etc, so whatever it's got that isn't 'right', I ain't gonna worry! :oldtongue: :thumleft:
