How much petrol once the light comes on?

Post by ashley »

Just as I got into the work carpark my fuel light came on in my tubby ](*,)

The nearest shell garage is probably 5 miles, but I might get stuck in traffic on the way...

I really dont want to put any 95 ron in (saisnbury's is literally round the corner), but wondering if I have a choice!

How many miles would you roughly expect if I drive on idle?

I'm guessing I've got a bit more in the swirl pot too :-k

Just pray the traffic isn't too bad I guess!

put £5 of Ron95 in and drive off boost to Shell and fill up with VPower

God knows how much is in when the light comes on, Ive read about peoples cars running out of fuel even before the light comes on!!

I drove to shell today on red with the light going on and off and the garage was closed!! had to try and get to Tescos but traffic was mad because of road works so found a Esso garage and put £10 of Essos Super Unleaded Ron97 just wasnt worth the risk realy

And it ain't recommended to drive with a nearly empty tank :?:

I always fill up if I have the opportunity, even if its still half full.

i only put a tenner in at a time, less fuel=lighter car, or lighter rear end, wich means more control and less fuel consumption!!

I'd hazard that you have at least 5 litres of fuel left, even when the light is on solid during normal driving. I've had the light on solid and still only been able to get 48-49 litres of fuel in when I've filled up.

That's what fuel filters are for. Seriously, having drained and inspected my old Mini's fuel tank after 20 years on the road, there wasn't one bit of crap in there.

in both of mine the light comes on around 40 litres used, so approx 15 litres left in the tank.

i've done 70 motorway miles with the light on, managed to get 54 litres in when i filled up, so i had 1 litre left

The light comes on about 40-42 ltrs used on my rev3 turbo. I think its a 55 ltr tank but dont want to find out the hard way!

Managed 45 miles from when the light came on when the car was on the flat - chickened out after that.

It took 49L after i did that so still 6 litres in there somewhere.
