Disconnect the battery is the only way to be sure (like nuking the site from orbit ;) ). I tried removing the ECU fuses on mine but it never worked and I'm not the only one, so I'd suggest just disconnecting the negative from the battery and leaving for 30 mins. Stock JDM stereo has no code that I'm aware of, regardless of it being the Sony or Fisher Price one.

Why do you want to reset your ECU though? Shouldn't need to unless you've had an issue with the car.

As above, easiest way is to disconnect the battery :thumleft:
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

Thought there were 2 options? (talking about the 1ZZ-FE)

Disconnect battery for 5minutes;
Disconnect the ECU fuse for at least 30sec. (Fu-EFI1 (ECM)

But after that, the engine should be mapped again, and fine adjusted.
(you can do this yourself)

For those who can read Dutch :whistle: :

Otherwise Google for it, im sure there's something about it on the US forums aswell :thumleft:

Interesting reading - but I've found that disconnecting the battery will clear CELs within just a few seconds

The ECU resetting advice seems long-winded! Isn't the ECU on a constant learning process therefore however you drive immediately afterwards, this will not have a long term effect?

My car started losing revs in traffic about 2 weeks ago so when I got home I disconnected the battery for half an hour or so and the car has been fine since.

Interesting. My understanding of Toyota's ECU learning strategy is that after resetting an ECU it will return to it's optimal settings, "learning" only when it detects something sub-optimal (like detonation).

I always reset the ECU on my race car (by using the master battery cut-off switch in the cockpit) before going out on circuit to ensure I'm running the best map. 8)

Testing the battery cut-off switch is part of the scrutineering process, so every MR2 will have it's ECU reset at least once at the start of a race meeting.
