my rev3 G Limited

Post by Stushine »

thought it was about time i posted up some pic etc of my car..
had it about 2 weeks now. after having a rev3 tubby about 2 years ago, i kinnda missed having an MR2 so decided to buy another one..

when i bought it.

completely standard apart from wheels and a quick shift.
car had no headunit, and needed a bit of a clean up etc.

so the first things i did was take the old brittle stickers off (back bumper and window)
then i got all my gear out of the van to fully correct the paint work.
took about 8 hours in total to get a completely swirl free bright red finish.

i also added some euro type window wipers and uk side lights

gear know was abit manky, so after seeing a post on here i found out i could remove the leather to find another gearknob behind, but my leather was glued on so i ended up with a messy gearknob

Image

so i ordered a few bits last week

air filter
exhaust
gearknob
headunit and ipod

near gearknob and headunit

forgot to get pics of the filter etc.

i also cleaned up some other bits and peices, the undertray on the turbo bonnet was abit corroded, so that was taken off, cleaned up and resprayed black.

pretty happy with it so far.
furure plans for now are..

near steering wheel
clean up engine (polish metal etc)
after market strut braces, refurb wheels (which i made a start on)

couple of pics of both my toys

full spec of the car now is..

japspeed exhaust
aftermarket air filter
quick shift
enkei split rims, staggered 16" rear 15" front
alpine headunit
new brake disks and pads up front
new pads rear
new hardbrake install
flexi wipers
uk spec side lights

i will post as and when i update..

just out of curiosity, what would you say the cars worth now?
full mot, 6 months tax, 106k miles approx

with the G220 you would be there for quite a while.
most mr2s are painted in solid 2 pac paint which makes it quite tough to polish up. i used my rotary, with the 3m range of polish, which i found to work pretty well. different cars you will get different results, some of my customers cars the 3m range dosent work to well, as do some other polish and pad combos on different paints, its just a case of finding the best polish and pad combo for the paint.

with the 3m range its all set up by colour now to make things easier

green
yellow
blue

you basically use the green lid polish with the green pad and so on.
but like i say, with the G220 or any other orbital polisher, it will take ages to fully correct

the process i used was as follows

wash, de-tar, clay rewash etc
then worked an area to find the best pad/polish combo

i got away with correcting most of it with the yellow pad/yellow cap
some of the harder swirled areas i added abit of green cap polish to the yellow pad, once all corrected i used the blue pad and blue cap which is the finishing polish. once all that was done, i used a paint cleaner to prep the bodywork for wax, i give it 2 coats of wax, sealed the windows, dressed arches and tyres, waxed rims.

hope thats of some help

Cheers for that mate, don't think i'm ready for a rotary yet can see myself just burning a whole in the paint, but i was debating selling my g220 on detailing world and manning up going for a rotary and try it on my mums corsa

But your car does look great bud, are they rota wheels?

just like to add , as of 1988 , 90% of toyota cars are painted in the 2 pac , 2 coat sysytem . in other words base coat and laquer. the chances are that most front ends have been re sprayed in single solid 2 pac. the paint laws in japan are different to anywhere else in the world . they have less microns of paint applied to their cars from factory. black and white and red are availiable in solid 2 pac , but thats it. from factory they were base over clear .

your car looks great btw :thumleft:
