Another garage bug

Post by toxo »

The garage plugin does something really rather odd if you try and view a garage that doesn't exist. It seems to return a 0 byte output, so you get a 'page cannot be displayed / dns error' from internet exploder. None of this would be an issue, however the profile screen provides a link to a user's garage (on the right) regardless of whether a car has been created by a user or not. For example, this link works:

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/garage.php ... rname=toxo

This link returns no cars (user does not exist):
http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/garage.php ... name=toxo1

This link breaks things (user exists but has no car in garage):
http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/garage.php ... er=Extubby

It's really minor but worth getting sorted if you ever find someone willing to take on the upkeep of the plugin.

The garage barely works at all for me, for example if I view your profile and then click on 'Vehicle Garage of Toxo' I just get a blank page after being redirected to this link:

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/garage.php ... &user=toxo

The reason seems to be that some links use the correct URL parameter 'username' and some just use 'user'. So if you replace 'user' in your last link with 'username' it will work.

Ah yes, I hadn't spotted that. In that case it's quite likely that it's just the "Vehicle Garage of <username>" link that's rubbish.

Yeah, a lot of the features don't seem to work. For example, I can search the garage, but then I can't sort the results and the browse garage link doesn't work at all for me.

Guys,

Apologies - Unfortunatly Esmond who wrote this all from scratch is no longer actively supporting the phpBB Garage code.

If either of you have experience of coding PHP and would be intersted in working on the Site and fixing such issues, let me know.

Nik - thanks for the pointer to the bug in that code, and even better the fix - I'll take a look later.

One reason for delaying the update of the fourm to phpbb3 was to move all the Garage content across but the development of PHPBB Garage for phpbb3 seems to have also stalled, which means when we move forums we may reluctantly have to mothball the content we have currently on phpbb2.
