high idle on start up/ allso vibration through pedals?

Post by britman »

Hi hellp, I have already registered but forgot my username doh.I heard its common and can be fixed but isnt essential. Mine revs up at 1500 for ages but graduly goes after a while. It sometimes revs up and dont at idle or low revs for a while is this part of the same problem? cheers get annoying if going slow but appears to go once warm revs are always at at least 1100 at idle though.

Also another matter I have a illness where i get sensitive musles on some cars. I'm fine on newer cars and low milage an deven some old cars but on this it makes my hand tingle for ages half a day after use and my foot aches and feels hot and burns on inside. Do you think it just wear from the engine as i feel a fine vibration through accelerator and steering wheel. Could it just be engine wear or suspention wear somewhere a si didndt have this on my mr2 mk1 i had 2 years ago. Anyone else suffer thsi annoying problem on some cars? i have m.e so it can get sore musles from tools and other things too. Guess most wouldnt get this problem or notice it i tend to feel it on older car and high milage.

Its a real shame as wil have to sell as its to painfull, it seam to be hit and miss with me as my musles can get tramard easily by things most woulnt even pick up is there.

Really unlucky a slove the mr2 and was a bargain too. Easily worth more than i payed.

There is wobble lthrough the wheel above 60 is this indicitive of wear through steering? Think balencing ok.

Just curious is anyone near east northamptonshire west bedfordshire im not far from snata pod too? Just curious as meet some people near me to see what they thought of my car etc and to swap parts we had etc when i had a probe for a while. Just curious

I'm quiet new here so unsure of how forum works yet.The car came with lots of spares too, il prob list them on ebay soon not sure how to do it on here il have a look tommorow a shavent time tonite.

Have 2 rear lights, ecu, clutch slave cylinder, water bottle, brake slave cylinder, think a bonnet or boot ctach and wire, 2 front indicators and sidelights in one, alternator, something huge with a black sloping front unsure what it is, a front lamp, rear door lock i think some pipes, i havnt even looked what else as yet. unsure what some of it is ha

above 60 vibration most likely tracking wheel balancing problem if not standard wheels check theres spigot rings to fit wheels to hub bore if not that possibly front brakes warped

Welcome along to the the forum :thumleft:

The high revs at start-up is normal. This just allows the engine to warm up slightly quicker. There are various modification to bypass this if it annoys you, but it's really not necessary.

The vibration as said above could be wheel balancing or tracking, but it could also be knackered ball joints or topmounts.

You could take your car to a mate of mine who is an independant Toyota specialist that does all the work on my car I can't be bothered with or don't know how. He is based just off Weedon road in Northampton.

That's a matter of opinion that one garrick,i myself prefer not to have a high idle for 3 or 4 miles drinking loads of fuel and taking forever to fall to 900rpm.

Toyota got the design of that waxstat all wrong im afraid.

I agree.

IMO Toyota designed it such that the car would always start/idle with the same technique. i.e. start with foot off the throttle even when the temperature was way, way below zero degC.

It's a compromise to cater for starting/idling in extremely cold conditions when extra 'throttle' is required (IMO). The downside is that it causes higher than necessary idle revs on 'not so cold' days.

The bonus is that it warms up quicker on the driveway

It often gets referred to as the 'auto choke' and this is incorrect. It's more like a temperature controlled fast idle valve and it helps starting/idling/warmup on cold starts.

Once on the move it doesn't use any more fuel than if you blanked it off. i.e. it does nothing to affect the air fuel ratio (unlike a true 'choke')
