[Mk2] [Turbo] boost problems with me mr2 t

Post by pearson mr2-T »

wondered if any one can help.I have a rev 2 mr2t and its only boosting at 4-5
psi, is there any common faults with boost valves ? i currently have the cylinder head off , so i am renewing a lot of the gaskets but 6 psi i s quite a lot to loose and have been told that it could possibly be the turbo. But i can not understand what can go round with a fully floating turbo that is still boosting and half boost, i have had a look and it seems ok so i don't really no what 2 try.the only reason why took the head off was because the water pump failed so i thought i might as well sort the small oil leak from the head gasket while i had the cam belt off . thanks for your time and if any one has had any similar probs can you let me no thanks Dan.

Check to see if the cars stock boost control valve has been disabled (this will make the car run at about 7psi)either by being un pluged or having the pipe from the actuator cut and blocked, also could have a boost leak so check clamps, I/C etc also check to make sure the wastgate is not stuck open

4-5 psi sounds like safe mode to me
check error codes when it is back running again

if you got a rev1/2, werth putting a metal headgasket on there....
get the head skimmed and clean up the block..

as mentioned, it would simply be the tvsv has been disabled...(someone would have done this to fit a boost controller)
