Self diagnostic for Gen3??

Post by docwra »

Hi all - docwra here visiting from www.sxoc.com/vbb :)

My missus has a Gen3 MR2 (ZZW30) but her engine check light came on while she was going to work this morning. Im going to go visit her shortly with a big pot of oil ;) but wondered if there was a self diagnostic for the engine, like Ive used on my 350Z and 200SX recently :)

Any help much appreciated :thumleft:

I believe the MK3 is too new to provide self-diagnosis and has the required ODB2 system instead. I might well be wrong though as my MK3 experience is very limited!

Don't Halfords sell a few diagnostic tools? I'd imagine one of those is OBD-II compliant.

The boys on the SXOC came up trumps: http://codes.rennacs.com/plugins/Toy...-21-Avalon.php

While Im somewhat concerned about bridging two ports on the OBD witha paperclip  I think Ill give it a go tonight :)

Cheers for your help - Ill report back tomorrow, possibly regarding my now burnt out MR2 :D

IIRC, Halfords will only do a reading for you (and possibly clear the codes). They charge £49 for this and you will have to book the car in.

I picked one up for £25 off eBay, and it's done it's job a few times now. Just be wary of model years for petrol and diesel (which are different), and manufacturer specific systems.

If anyone close by needs a reading, I'll be happy to help. It'll be a damn sight cheaper than the Dealer and Halfords...! Just make sure the car is OBDII compatible.

A shame you don't live closer dude.. :?

Book the car in? :)
I meant they sell the actual readers :)
