As title really, are there any panels or diagrams etc on how the Spyder is put together.....?
Any feedback on this would be great :thumleft: \:D/

Conversion?! Are you mad?

Seriously, I'm sure one of the affiliate garages cut the roof off an SW20 once to see what would happen and it folded in half. You're utterly, utterly mad if you attempt this yourself.

Agree, it was Rogue who did that, You want a spyder mate, buy a genuine one.

Your car will be a death trap "modded" into spyder form.

Lads, he never said he was going to do a conversion, only he wanted info? Maybe he just wants to know the tech spec, and the history of it

judging by ur replies iam assuming this is not a good thing to do? !!!!

maybe more research will need to go into it beforehand??

or should it be left alone

I would leave it alone dude. Don't think your insurance would take to kindly either to you informing them of your mod:

"Hi, I'd like to add my cut 'n' shut spyder modification to my policy please"

It's a waste tbh, they do come up for sale quite regularly. If you are keen on one, just hang around. I've seen them go for between £4-7K, which is not so bad!

Tom at NVI has his Spyder up for sale at the moment, Ive been in it and it's an awesome example - it has a manual turbo lump in it as well (there is some confusion as to whether this was a one off factory special or an engine conversion at a later date - Tom claims it is one of two factory turbo Spyders) and yes, JHiss (a user on here) has a Spyder which he brought to Le Mans with us :)

Is it just me -I don't like the spyder! (sorry  sorry -something wrong with the profile of it) But if you want to do it I guess anything's possible -just weigh up cost against buying one I guess. Tom's had spyders on his website for ages though not sure how up to date it is. Thing is a bad conversion (of any type) is not going to compare with the real thing, it's gotta look good imo so it doesn't detract. And the first question for me goes to the insurers to see if they will touch it or not (gotta declare everything).

I guess it can be done -but not too sure if it will cost less than buying one.

Tom claims it is one of two factory turbo Spyders

....I thought the claim was that it might be the only turbo spyder -maybe I've picked that up wrong though. Did he not have 5 spyders at one point? -5% of the total production or something like that? -I keep an eye on his website as he seems to have the odd special MR2 in.

Tom told me that there were 2, and that one of them is in a museum at the Toyota headquarters. I think the most he's had at once is 4:

Out of 98 that's not bad! Has to be said I'm not a fan of them either...
