Following on from the success of the last few years I'm at it again

-

"Team MR2" opened a lot of eyes in 2008 but as the majority of the team was made up of IMOC members I've decided to run things as an IMOC team this time around.

Attempts to unify the various forums and types of MR2 didn't work out as I'd hoped and the only person who wasn't an IMOC member looks likely to enter in the drag class anyway.

This also means that we can make it more of a club event with the potential for a decent social gathering as well as the event itself.

The event takes place on Sunday the 26th of July 2009 at Elvington Airfield near York and I'm expecting to be able to secure 10 places again after making a good impact on things.

We'll be hoping to attack the 1/4 mile and top speed event as usual but also want to look into the possibility of cars that will be able to show their ability on the handling circuit too.

Ideally I want everyone to have a go at all 3 events but if we can get some specialists in each we'll have more chance of getting points.

After an MR2 won the RWD side of things last year it would be nice to repeat this and have a few cars fighting it out in the finals

The search is on for the 1/4 mile monsters, the nimble corner lovers

(and talented drivers) and good all round cars that can show the flexibility of the MR2.

An event like this can do wonders for the appeal of a particular make of model, earning the respect of the masses can also boost used values

The team is open to anyone who is willing to work as part of a team, all models of MR2 are welcome

(as long as they are competitive of course!) and I'll do my utmost to ensure things are organised as well as can be to ensure you have a fun day with as little stress as possible.

In addition to team members I'm also keen to try and get as much help for the team as possible

- pit lane support crew to help out with any spanner work, people to guard tools,

"hospitality" to keep the team and visiting club members refreshed, people willing to collect and document times as the day goes on and more.

.

.

if you think you can help with something please let me know

We always need help to set things up at the start and more importantly to take it all apart again at the end, everyone tends to rush off and leave a handful of people to clean up.

I'm also very keen to hear from any potential sponsors who may want to contribute towards team entry costs in exchange for advertising space, supply useful parts for the day, feed the team, provide shelter and so on.

.

Make yourself known if you want a day out in front of 1000's of people!

For those of you who want to spectate I'm also trying to arrange for some club parking inside the event, this will work on the basis that people who buy advance tickets get the option of this first.

Places will be very limited though, the MLR will be taking up most of the room.

A bit more info below.

Further info.

For Spectators
-
Everyone is aware of the credit crunch so they will be pegging ticket prices back to last years levels again, so its

£15 in advance from the
www.totb.co.uk web shop or

£20 on the day.

Kids under 16 are free entry with parents/guardians.
For car club members
Group buy discount as usual on 10 or more ticket orders, along with a dedicated area for show cars from each club within the trade display areas.

Competing clubs will also be given room for a club marquee if required alongside the show cars.

These areas will be allocated on a first come basis so if it's something you want and can help with please get in touch.
For competitors
- entry prices remain as last year at

£100 for private entries and

£175 for tuners/pro cars.
Handling circuit

- last years system of multi car individual timed laps worked well and will be repeated again.

Competitors will be allowed 5 timed runs although the track may be declared free for further timed runs later in the day if all competitor runs have been completed, subject to agreement on the day.
Top Speed

- 1km standing speed trap as in 2008.

Classes/tyres- last years class structure and tyre rules worked well, with little or no complaint from competitors.

Suggestions on other allowed tyres should be made before 1st March, similarly for any suggestions on rules/regs.

Other than that we aim to maintain the class and rule structure from last season which worked well.
Test days

- Straightliners Ltd will be able to offer midweek qualifying days at Santa Pod if clubs are interested in 1/4m drag qualifiers, subject to their own terms/conditions and enough interest.

As soon as any additional info is made available I'll pass it on but if I've missed anything or you have questions in the meantime please feel free to sent me a message or post up here.

So.
