I suppose it'll be nice to always see "99% memory free"

Has to be a 9.5mm SATA drive, some are 12.5 and wont fit.

Yup that is true, but this is a pretty good price - £3 cheaper than ebuyer, and free delivery :thumleft:

And I doubt it will say 99% memory free for long, Play TV chews up HD space pretty quickly.

Especially when the gf has it setup to record EVERY X Factor, Strictly Come Whatever, Heroes, Eastenders etc etc.

I bought that exact drive a month ago (PlayTV needed the space!), at the time it was the best value £/gb drive out there. (Probably still is) - 5 screws and 2 minutes to install - then update or restore from backup.

Twin tuner for the PS3 -
http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/ ... oduct.html
You can play games etc whilst it's recording with no adverse affects, the system sets a core set aside for it in the cell, so it doesn't impede on the rest of the system.
Lacks series link, although I suspect we'll see something like this in a future firmware update. You can still do repeat recordings etc though (daily/weekly type things)

There's a "backup" facility in the options. That copies all games/updates/music/videos etc on your current HDD to an external HDD (not sure if it actually copies the game saves too, as I believe they can be copied manually anyway).

You are correct about the External hardrive fucntion or you could jsut leave an external HD with the PS3 and as long as the Files are the same name as on your PS3 ie VIDEO, PHOTO, MUSIC and its formatted to FAT32 then you can just use an external HD

Its Not a Twin tuner though is it?

you cant watch one Broadcast whilst recording another can you?

Yes it is twin tuner, you can record one channel and watch another.
Backup to an external disk (has to be fat32, ntfs isn't recognised) - I can confirm it restores everything exactly as it was, game saves etc are all left intact, the only difference is the extra space ;)

Currently restoring my backup now after getting a 500Gb from Play.com

Have to say though, the packaging from Play.com is an absolute disgrace
How it arrived in one piece is a miracle.
Laptop harddrive, wrapped in an A4 piece of paper (invoice) stuck in a plastic bag. No 'fragile' markings anywhere to be seen.
Entrusted to Mr Postie to sling in the back of his van!!

[-X

Even with a blank harddrive, it said I only had 413Gb free (yes I know you don't get the full 500Gb) out of 465Gb. What was taking up the 52Gb of the available space :-k ](*,)

Play TV is freeview.

You don't have to pay a subscription - annoyingly (as well all these things) you also cannot pay to get UK Gold or whatever it's called now, since the premium services are ONLY available if you buy a complete recording system bundled with sports. Which is pants, because the shows on that are good but not worth paying for.

Play TV is basically made of awesome. Not only is the quality decent, it's also not copy protected so you can get the files and transcode them for iPod/PSP/whatever, and it will wake the PS3, record a show, and shut it down again. And you can watch it on a PSP via remote connection live.

My PS3 is now stuck in an endless loop \:D/

1. "Hard disk's file system is corrupt - press to restore"
2. restore
3. reboot
4. goto 1
](*,)

I've no way of re-formatting the laptop drive.

The last time I did manage to get to the PS3 XMB the "full format" says it would've took 28 hours to perform  so I just did the quick format.

Probably down to Play.com's packaging, be warned, wish I'd known others have had the same problem...

I recently purchased a PC Hard Drive from play.com, which was very very badly packaged! When I got the drive it was in it's original anti-static bag in another plain black bag!! No bubble wrap, no jiffy bag, no foam, no box...basically no protection for a delicate device!! I bought some blank DVD's from them and that arrived in a jiffy bag inside a box! Better protection to something that isn't easy to break, compared to something that is incredibly delicate!

That sucks :/ I was also concerned when I saw my drive arrive rattling around in a box from Play.com, but it's a-ok so I soon forgot about my moment of outrage!
Do you not know anyone with a usb sata adapter that could quickly format it for you?
Failing that, get it swapped for another and demand that they put some cushioning around it, telling them it's a device sensitive to knocks & shocks and clearly damaged in transit!
