Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
Okies, i have standard rev4 alloys i think on a rev2, whats the best rubbers to go for? i was thinking Toyo's any ideas on setup sizes etc, prob get this asked all the time sorry
Think you'll find the general concensus is that Toyo's are only decent in larger diameter sizes (16, 17's etc). The sidewall on the 15's seems to be far too soft.
Perhaps someone can suggest a decent 15 inch tyre. I've only used 17's for years.
EarL.
the toyos have always been ok by my book, no where near the s03's i had before but better/on par with most mid range tyres
the rears i find are great but its the fronts, just not very confidence inspiring at all as they dont offer much feel
I had Toyos on standard 15" wheels and couldn't fault them. I've now got them on 17's and I'm happy there too.
You get what you pay for with tyres and for the sake of a few extra quid its not worth putting your life at risk (especially in a mid-engine b@stard like an MR2).

lol nearly half my friend but it is very subjective
Yeh, at least! I hated them!
It appears that if you pump them up 5 or so psi more than the handbook says, they seem to work well. Trouble is though, surely that reduces traction on the road
Kuhmo's are supposed to be pretty good.
I've got Toyo Proxies on standard 15"s on my Roadster Turbo, and they really do grip, have Eagle F1s on 17"s on my mk2 Turbo which have to be the best tyres Ive ever had on any car. I tried Falkens on my old rev 3 N/A on standard 15"s, great budget tyre, and did grip really well, even in the wet, but did feel the sidewall to be a bit soft and a little unerving in corners at times until I got used to them.

If you can get Falken 452s in 15" I'd opt for them, they only have very good reviews on here.
that sounds better, what i suppose i need is a shopping list of good tyres
then go down to my garage and see what they can get me
so Falken 452s
Toyos (anything special) ?
others?
Toyo Proxes T1 - R (these are the replacement for the legendary T1-S's)
Eagle F1's
They the choices I'm considering at the moment, although I'm looking for 17's
Hope that helps

i have had
Yoko A509
Falken F541 &
Eagle F1
The F1's are the best tyre i have had by far, the Falkens were good and the Yoko's where utter tripe even worse the wet
I think i will be getting F1's again
I've been looking at the Bridgestone tyres quite carefully, never really considered them before but quite like to look of the SE03's, and they get some good reviews if you look around- expensive though
Likewise the RE050's look a good option. http://www.bridgestone.co.uk/bfe/v/inde ... 000377RCRD
It's really difficult to judge between tyres based on other people's opinions though, so many things effect how a tyre feels- suspension set up, wheel size, the roads you drive, your driving style, etc etc
To an extent I think you've just got to suck it and see...
