I'm going to be getting myself a PS3 in the new year. have just got a full HD 50" plasma and will be getting a HD-dvd player for xmas. I dont play alot of games but for the price of the PS3 it makes an excellent blu-ray player and dvd upscaler.

Personally i think you'll use it as an upscaler loads once you see how good it is at this. We only have one blu-ray film, but obviously have loads of DVDs. In fact the upscaler is so good that we are quite happy watching DVDs and only ever use the PS3 to play them these days.

Mark got the re-mastered Star Wars trilogy through last week, so we ended up watching them all. Have to say the quality really was rather good even though it isn't true HD.

Or you could buy a 360 Elite which also upscales the dvds and the HDDVD drive and get 5 HD DVD's free!

Just as good as the PS3. The Elite has all new components and new dvd player.

I was thinking of having both a blu-ray and hd-dvd player, stand alone blu-ray players are quite expensive so PS3 it is.

one of 2 things will happen.

one format will win and you will of spent atleast £200 on something thats not needed.


or two, they both lose out and either downloadable content or UHD-DVD or whatever its called will come out and youll have 2 bits of pointless hardware.

this is why they need to stop being bitches and jus pick a format already. its not fair on the consumer.

Well i was going to get a dvd upscaler (£80) but have seen a samsung EP30 hd-dvd player with 7 free dvds for £200, i can live with a potential loss of £120.

Will there ever be an end to the ps vs xbox war? of course not, different people like different things, always have always will.

i dont see how movie studios can keep making there films on one format and not the other tho as they are losing alot of business.

cant be that cheap to make films available on both either cos i imagine more would of done it already.


IMO nothing will win. it will be phased out by downloads or an even higher spec disc.

Just kidding really get what you want but the shops round me (virgin,hmv,asda) all stock more blu-ray compared with hd dvd about say 7 to 3 out of ten . my blockbuster WONT do hd dvd.

see, that would make you think that bluray was the most popular but thats not neccesarily true.

last i read warner werent renewing there bluray license which was a bit suspect but then youll read stories about bluray outselling HD-DVD.

the whole thing is stupid and you cant get any straight facts as everywhere seems to say something different.
