A mate and very competent mechanic has offered to take out and re-install
the engine once built if I wanted to go that route.

Yorkshire is a fair journey from me, but where there's a will there is a way.

Am chasing up Nispro tomorrow and as mentioned will give Abbey the chance
to match if they can.

In regards to forged rod's , I'm still undecided , I don't expect to go over 500+
but who know's. I kinda had 400bhp as my goal but at the moment am happy
with just F**KING driving my car at 320BHP full stop lol

That's him mate, the amount of big power builds he has done is very impressive. The best bit for me is how quickly he gets stuff done! For example i went on holiday and said no rush getting the clutch changed as i'm away for over a week and the next day he txt me saying it was ready to collect........But yes it is a long way from you.

Loved the monkey london video by the way, nice to see an mr2 getting used as it was intended.

ive had mine up at those boost levels for a long time, guess there is a bit of luck involved, but i do run water/meth injection since i bought it.
worth a thought.

still interested to know if you could "feel" anything different? from after the dyno, to what its like now?

perhaps it made 320hp even with a cracked ring?

Hi Pal

Sorry yes I had meant to reply to you on this,
actually there was a noticeable difference but it was when you came
off the throttle. Before the map, when you let off at say 5k it would
run down the rev's smoothly and there was little burbling and popping
but nothing much at all.

Now when you do the same it pops and burbles like a V8 on idle,
and between 3.7 and 3.3k or thereabouts it almost sounds like it starts to run
on 3 cylinders, that was straight after the map !

It really changed the characteristics of how the car sounded and still find it
unusual, when I mentioned it to Walton on the phone he said something
along the lines of "the car is adding fuel back in" hence the sound ?

Apart from that and the obvious power increase there wasn't anything I could
discern.

so car doesnt feel any different to how you got it back from the dyno??? and now you find it down on compression?

i was more trying to ascertain whether car was good for days after the dyno, and now it feels different...

or whether it feels the same since you got it back
:?

perhaps it made 320 at one point, then took a poop on the dyno and they gave it back to you.
so to you its always felt the same since the dyno.

that make any sense?

Not to go into rod wars - but usually the rods (or at least teh rod bolts which are upgraded to ARPs as standard with forged) have a weak point at 380-400.

If you want to run more.... at your own peril. As the labour is £0 to install, I dont see why you wouldnt. anyway that's just my personal experience / opinion.

I dropped the car off to Pete's only wanting forged pistons, nothing else. Stock ct20b.

Now look whats happened \:D/ :whistle: :lol:

Yes I think I'm with you, to be honest the car was driven a handful of times
after getting back from mapping due to Sh*t weather. However no, I think the
car has only recently had this issue arise. Shortly after noticing smoke from
the engine lid at the end of filming the compression issues started to show in
how the car drove. Now its incredibly obvious as its running on 3 cylinders.

The car drove and felt strong up until a full days hooning.

So just had a good call with Simon at YVS Performance, who was refreshingly
honest and offered by far the cheapest options so far. He doesn't seem to
think there is any point in going for forged rod's unless I'm looking to exceed
500+ bhp and mentioned he would never fit them unless uprated cams were
fitted.

He asked me my goals for the car ( fast road + rare track use ) and said
that I have two options. below are rough ideas on costings over the phone
and are subject to the condition of the block.

1. Drive in drive out:
Labour = £800 - £1000
Parts = £1000 ( roughly )
Engineering = TBA

2. Engine delivered:
Labour = £400
Parts = £1000 ( roughly )
Engineering = TBA

Option 2 would also include labour from my mates garage taking the engine
out and re-installing. Which they expect to be 16-18 hours, he has asked if
I want to pay cash also ! ( warranty offered still )

Then of course there is Mapping, Abbey Motorsport being my closest mapper
so thats an un-factored cost.

and not to forget a long old road trip to Yorkshire with said engine !

Just heard back from my mate on costs for taking out the engine and
re-installing , £1100 ! , Option 1 will be far cheaper even with
paying for the car to be transported up there !

Problem is that leaves me with an unmapped car in Leeds, would that be
ok to drive to a mapper, or will the current map hold ?

Clearly not a good enough mate for mates rates then! :lol:

YVS is looking like the right option for you then.

Have you still got your stock ECU? You could switch back to that just to be safe.

what fueling??

is the link plug and play harness? if so remove and install the oem ecu and run it in on that.

unless you have bigger fueling run on an oem ecu, it carries saftey features and you can read codes.

Yeah Init, just what I was thinking, he should get a job at Rogue ! lol
YVS is looking very well priced and the fact he's an MR2 Turbo specialist
definitely helps.

Yes I still have the OEM.

up on Google ( Whites ) and they want £415 !
once the mapping is added I'm looking at close to if not 3k anyways.

Just checked through my emails, I got quotes for ~£200 to move a non runner MR2 from Manchester to Colchester via Shiply.
