I certainly wouldn't be pushing an engine with 3 cylinders running 30psi less compression than the 4th, let alone sticking a bigger turbo on.

Unless of course you don't care if it all goes bang.

Good luck!

Hi Peter,

In the short term I'm just getting the map tweaked to stop it running lean and decided to lower the boost back down! :thumleft:

Over the winter before any big turbo is fitted the engine will be split and inspected to find out the cause of the high compression on cylinder 4.

I want it to be 100% as I can't afford for it to fail and then have to get pulled apart again, been there in the past with previous projects! And it get expensive very quickly.

Hi All,

Ok latest update.

The 2 has been back on the rollers today to try and sort out fueling and few other things.

Firstly the boost controller had been set incorrectly and the gain was way to low so that has been fixed.

Done a couple of pulls and getting a flat spot on the graph high up, a restriction somewhere? Thought we would check the air filter and boom all rusted up! Done a run with no filter and seen a big improvement of about 18hp.

We deffinatley have an issue with the Forge actuator! The arm is stiff as hell and will be swapped for a standard one. Also the waste gate is staying open hence the turbo not making boost until approx 4300rpm.

The boost has been lowered to 1.3 and the results below.
Image

Next step is to firstly get my refund for the turbo kit I got ripped off with then I might just buy a new CT20b Hybrid which will cure both waste gate issues and actuator issues.

The sarga continues!

Glad to see its improved buddy, I was panicking for a moment but knew it had be something simple.

I've got a stock actuator and a turbo dynamics actuator here, both working, that you're welcome to if it helps?

I'm not sure what the max figures are likely to be as its a stock head, with stock rev2 cams, but I'll watch with interest.

I made 312 bhp at 1.3 bar, albeit on a bigger turbo, but couldn't go higher, as the stock map sensor would've needed replacing.

Further Update...

With regards to the GT3582R Kit off ebay... The seller has now been in touch and appologised for being unavailable for the past 2 weeks.

He has posted out the kit this morning and should be with me tomorrow..

It looks like the big turbo plans are back on! :thumleft:

Hi All,

Update...

I bought a new Turbo Dynamics 12psi actuator and that is today's job! Fingers crossed that sorts out the boosting issue.

Will update again once it's on and running later.

Hi All,

OK so the new actuator wouldn't fit? It has a different thread to the part that's fitted to the waste gate flap!

Am I missing some parts here or what??

Hi All,

Small update:

The 2 was in @ JM-Imports last week,

Fitted

New Endless fast road front pads.
New EBC Red Stuff rear pads.
New Toyota actuator.

Me and the boss (Wor lass) are busy house hunting at the minute which means not much spare cash to push the MR2’s way!... D’oh!

But I am slowly buying bits n bobs under the radar so to speak! \:D/

Just ordered a Frozen Boost charge cooler which should be here next week.

Plan is to boot mount the charge cooler core on the bulk head and run a side mount radiator in the current intercoolers location, I think a radiator from a 98 Civic/Rover will slot in nicely.

Other option is to cut out the boot floor and mount the radiator there?.... Don’t fancy hacking the floor out though?

Parts en-route:

Charge Cooler.
All the fittings/connectors.
Alu filler neck.
Some 3” alloy tubing.
5 meters of hose.
Water pump.

Just need to sort a radiator out once we decide where to mount it.

Will update once parts arrive.

Cheers Craig

You really need to mount the charge cooler radiator at the front of the car to get decent results, I can't see you getting anywhere near enough airflow in the stock i/c position in the engine bay....you might as well just keep a side mount intercooler if that's your plan :thumleft:

Hi Ashley,

Totaly agree with you pal and i will be going this route if my 1st idea yields poor results.

My 1st test Plan:

To run a side mount radiator a decent 40mm + core.
One single 10"/12" fan.
I have an old intercooler (NOS) spray kit with a 12" spray ring.
Also the system will be filled with a mix of water and glycol (We use this at work)

See what happens, might be a pile of pap

Just do it right first time- stick a charge cooler radiator at the front of the car and be done with it (IMO)
