Re: 5S - Second engine rebuild required already!!!

Post by J-1 »

Thanks mate. I hope you're cleaning it in a heated garage though!

Like I said earlier in this thread I thought about selling but couldn't do it...
A guy offered me money for it shortly after advertising it because he seen it go at Knockhill and liked it, so he was going to make it his track car.
So that was the icing on the cake for me. No way was I going to see my car driven round a track by someone else!!
I'd honestly rather torture it on track and have serious fun in it than sell it.
In fact, I think I'd rather bend it than sell it!

In for a penny. In for a pound.

Thanks bud. That's the way I look at it.
Owned it since 2009 and spent a bit on it that I knew I'd never get back. And in general there's less of a market now than there was when I bought it.

Decided that instead of blowing £10k rebuilding it to my spec, I'm going to wait until the time is right ( when my engine says enough is enough!) and buy a rebuilt engine from a car that's being broken!

Watch this space.

Nice progress :)

Are you going to put anything in to isolate the "hot" and "cold" intake pipes from each other? All helps with those intake temps :thumleft:

Yeah, got loads of bits like this to do.

Will be ditching the standard turbo heat shield due to how heavy it is. Will replace with a turbo blanket or aluminium one.

Will get a bit of work done before I go back offshore in Jan. 8)

NA engine lid mixed with turbo bootlid for BMIC
Image

Full 3" exhaust kept as far over to the drivers side as possible to avoid heat-soak with BMIC. Custom heat-shield and BMIC.

More weight shaved off

Alloys test fitted with rolled arches and no spacers (I have 20mm spacers to go on). Wrapped in TOYO R888's. These were bought from Matt... He had them on his race car.
Fronts - Buddy club P1: 16 X 7.5, offset 32 with 225/45 ZR16.
Rears - Ultralite D1: 17 x9, offset 37 with 255 /40 ZR17.

Older photo of dash stripped. Dash is 80% complete now, just need some switches installed and it's done.

Not spent a lot of time on the car over the past year but that's all changing now so hoping to have the car finished by the end of summer.

It's undergoing a lot of work just now to get it ready for track (and road worthy!).
Getting aluminium door cards made etc, MASSIVE service including fitting new brakes (Carbotech XP10's!).
Going to order arch extensions and have my arches cut away so I can install the 20mm spacers and alloys.
I'm waiting on my Wilhelm Geometry kit coming in from the states this month which will be getting installed when I finally order my KW V3 coilovers.
Should be awesome on track now.

That's it for now. Will update over the next couple of weeks as things progress.

Thanks mate. I'm happy with the result! Even though the painter painted my spoiler as well when I wanted it to remain black... LOL.

Looking good- like the exhaust, have you done a sound test yet? Looks like it'll be proper loud...too loud for track day limits?

Not done a test yet. What is the test parameters?

It's less noisy than my Nur Spec, that's all I know. Should be fine! :-)

Different tracks have different allowable levels, have a look on the BAT site. Nur Spec is not track friendly so not your best judge!

You're running a screamer pipe as well aren't you?

Not trying to be negative, just highlighting a potential issue- it's soooo annoying haveing paid for a track day only to be stopped from running cos your car is too loud

Oh and +1 on the boot lid- very nice! :thumleft:

Just checked it out mate... 105db.
How do they test it?

Don't worry - not taken as negative. These things are always worth flagging up to people. :-)

Nope, no screamer pipe on mines bud.

Will try get a video of it posted up

Boot is cool eh?! :-)

Yeah- a quick search shows limits between 98db (mainly quiet evening running), to 108db for race days...so if you're under 105db with the option of a silencer to come under 100db if required you're probably in the ball park :thumleft:

They do several tests depending on the operators, a static test where they will measure the noise in the paddock at a specified distance from your exhaust at specified rpm level. They then tend to monitor drive by levels during the day as well, so if you did have a screamer and got through the static test, you might get flagged on track when on boost.

Hopefully see you out on track this summer sometime (maybe Anglesey? Sort of between us!!)- would be good to see how your car runs :thumleft:

Ashman, I'd honestly love to make it down there this year for a track day. Would be good to meet you and perhaps a few others from here. Lets watch this space at the moment and see how things go! 8)

Do you have a list of dates for it?
