Sad times unfortunately, the fun police are everywhere and cars and their enthusiastic owners are an easy target. As I said there may be a little bit of forgiveness here and there but on the whole we need to behave so they can't use it as an excuse to kill the event completely.

edit: forgot to add, is that three quarters of your rpm range, or 3 or 4 thousand rpm?

3/4 of the rev range, shouldn't be an issue with the MR2 being limited to 4000rpm

So do you think i'l struggle with the noise limits with a nur spec and twin external wastegates?

Any info on how the noise limits will be tested? Drive by?

Michael.

It's a static test conducted in the pits, 5000rpm (ish) while sat still, measured from a set distance from the car - a Nur isn't the ideal silent setup but with the bung in you should be OK... if that falls out as you leave the pits what can you do? ;)

Wastegates shouldn't be a problem, tyre noise won't be, launch / anti-lag is unlikely to be a factor... but we need to make an effort to be seen to be trying our best when tested.

Note the use of the word "unlikely" rather than "definitely not" - it's a presumption based on past experience of monitored events up there.

They had the same static test last year, cars passed in the pits and trundled to the line... they got there, did a huge noisy burnout, reversed back, switched on the "machine gun" style launch control, made lots of noise and then ripped up the strip with screamer pipes / exhausts blazing... :-k

It's early days and the 2007 rules haven't been published, so far I only know about the static test, that and experience are the only things I can base my input on right now but I don't see us having any huge issues with noise compared to some of the other teams.

Ok, cheers.

Michael, I do apologise but I have been away and not on line much, so I am not up to speed on TOTB and haven't read all the posts. (I'm really busy tonight as well so can't really afford the time to read everything)

Can you give me an update on your idea of getting all the MR2s together? Is it looking like a goer? And what are the qualifying criteria?

I'm busy too, I can't afford to type out what I've already posted in this thread to date in summary for you I'm afraid - have a read when you get a spare moment or two, I think I've covered most things so far and the Team MR2 entry is registered with the organisers.

How's your "stab in the back" team coming on?

I don't think anyone has ever told you that you can't enter a team.
We [IMOC committee] are all happy that you have made your own entry to be honest. All we told you was that we were not happy for you to make an IMOC entry. This was because of your behaviour and attitude (to use your own words - 'stab in the back' attitude) towards IMOC.

In fact, as you seem to have covered the bases with your entry, we are considering withdrawing the IMOC one, but will wait to see your entry criteria beforehand.

As i've said before, all the best with the entry :thumleft:
I'm sure it'll be a great team

I am not a vet' of the club, and have only been around for two yrs ish, still not 100% on what TOTB is about, but the MR2 clubs and owners need to stand united and put in quality entries. Not only that, but IMO they need to have been previously tested, RR'd and known reliability. I couldn't believe when reading results last year how many didn't even hit the track. What a waste.

Let's try and put things aside and try and win something instead - for the good of the owner, the club, and the status of the MR2 :)

Michael, although ur style can appear obtuse sometimes by perception, I think you have the right idea for this event. I know you're not wanting to lead the ship, but doing it for the common good. You have my blessing.

Would love to come. :D

GLOL! You've got me all wrong Michael, honestly! I was just utterly fed up with the pathetic bitching that went on after last years event. Have a read again in the cold light of day, it really was utterly pathetic.

So I thought for this year we needed someone that was totally neutral and then realised, hang on, that is me. Reason is I am totally clueless about Mk2 tubbys and have no friends who own them, so I would be starting from scratch and would only be taking people on merit.

If you can guarantee there won't be any favouritism and there is some fair qualification criteria, I will ask the rest of the committee if they dont mind if we drop TOTB as an IMOC entry.....

I've already outlined the fact that I'm neutral and that people will be in the team on merit several times in this thread, most people seem happy enough to accept this. At the end of the day someone will point the finger because someone I've met before might end up the team, hopefully I'll be able to show them why when the results go up - or maybe the team will be full of people I've never met, as long as the MR2 comes out of it looking good and everyone has a good day I'm happy.

I must say I'm loving the little digs though, I must tell all my MR2 Turbo buddies about it at our next secret meeting.

=D>

Selection criteria is simple enough at the moment - the best cars that are available to take part, the ones that will showcase the MR2 in all the events.... as we get nearer I'll be pushing and pushing for people to get runs in, lots of runs... then I'll be trying to get them on track somewhere for as little as possible so that the people who haven't had an chance to do corners can get some practice in.

We tried the same last year but most people were mid-build, we have that this year with a lot of the people who have contacted me but we also have a decent core of cars that are tried and tested... fun times ahead as far as I'm concerned...

Cheers for reply Michael :thumleft:

To be honest I like your idea because the only way the MR2 Team are going to be competitive is if you manage to attract the most powerful cars from all the clubs. Update please..

Interesting reading all of this :?

To be completely honest I'm not concerned with who and why. I am solely interested in the fun that comes along with entering such an event. I just want to be there so that I can do what I love doing best..... enjoying my car as it was intended!

Peace and love to all men and of course women, in fact, specially the women :clown:

What sort of bhp & 1/4 mile figures are we looking at to enter an MR2 into this, cos if i remember correctly, last years MR2's were quite tasty in the engine and mods department.....
