Cheers for the pic, thats the one!

£2800

I wouldn't say cheap, but a very fair price. We didn't need the starter motor, bellhousing (ford type-9), alternator or exhaust manifold (which the guy said was built to Formula Atlantic dimensions) so we managed to knock him down for that, but we did manage to get a spare, late spec 4A-GZE block and head, and a load of TRD gaskets thrown in (along with whatever else he decides he doesn't want, there were 3 or 4 spare engines in his workshop but I dont think we have room for all that).

Rebuilding our current engine and fitting the ZX10R ITBs (that are sat in my house) with DTA management would have cost about the same.

I know its probably not the best way to judge an engine but it looks damn fast, and the spec sheet makes strange things happen in my trousers.

It'll be in before Feb. We will be doing the North West Stages Rally in Blackpool with the new engine, second weekend in Feb.

I really can't wait to drive it, especially knowing Dave Brooks built the engine for torque and tractability (and he really knows what he is doing!) but still managed a top end of 193bhp.

I dont think we will be reving this engine off the counter like the old one, 8500rpm should be just enough. Luckily there will be a limiter now, unlike with the last engine and its webers. It was always a little worrying for a few seconds after reving it over 9000rpm in a drift/on the grass at Angers. It always survived though.

A tense week for me, worrying if we'd get gazumped on this engine, seeing as we forgot to leave a deposit on it and bigmouth (aw11rally, old buddy, old pal) told eeeeeeeeeveryone here all about the engine.
But now it's safely stashed away in my nice warm kitchen, just opposite the fridge. Quietly seeping oil & petrol onto the carpet. Ahhhh. Queue many long cold nights on a concrete garage floor, in Winter, fitting it into the car. Much coffee, beer, swearing, mirth and Chinese takeaways to follow.

Not much to say really, looks nice though. The engine that is, not the cogster.

Glad to see you got the photo with the pipe in there. 'Mehhhhh, we didn't have any of this fancy fuel injection in my day. Went to school on the back of a dinosaur', etc.

Be careful grandad, I don't think you should be drinking on your medication. You might have one of those funny turns again.

Funny?
I was considering taking a spade along tonight, in case the engine had been sold to someone else and I needed to bury you.

Very nice conversion, and very good project in total.

I am in a similar situation.

I want to replace the E51 in my GZE AW11 (for saving about 30kg).

The easy way is to use a C52, but I have found a US-Spec C56 (4.3 final drive) which also has the Spyder LSD inside.

I have read that I can use the MK2 N/A axles but I am not sure if I can swap the C56 bellhousing with the C52 bellhousing and moreover I do know what flywheel and disk should I use (I mean the 4agze flywheel/disk, the 4age flywheel/disk or the Spyder flywheel/disk?).

Any input would be highly appreciated!

All C type housings will be interchangeable so a C52 bell will bolt to a C56. Either swap bearings across or put in new ones.

The 4a-gze clutch and flywheel should be fine.

Won't your 4a-gze shafts fit in the mk3 LSD?

Thanks for the reply.

The shafts of the E51 (4a-gze) have different inner CVs compared to the C56 (MK3).

Maybe mk2 or st165 fronts then. We just made the exige/celica ones fit. They looked a lot stronger.

Cogboy's handy work.

101 uses for a claw hammer: in the absence of the correct tool to lock the cams (in order to remove the back plate for the cambelt cover) a hammer makes a handy substitute.

New plug valley cover. Made from 5mm aluminium with chamfered edges so we can RTV the edge between the plate and the cam covers, preventing water from getting into the plug valley. Also mounts the coil pack.

Mounting plate for the oil catch tank, coolant header tank, OMEX ecu, high pressure fuel pump & filter. Also 5mm ally. All holes tapped so that the hardware bolts directly to the plate without having to faff around behind it trying to fit nuts. Hiding in the left corner of the boot are the low pressure fuel pump (Facet Red Top) and the swirl pot.

Oh God, don't encourage him (aw11rally). That's his next plan. It's taken me two days graft to make the templates and final ally plates for these bits. Would have been easier with a milling machine, but I had to make do with an angle grinder and some flap discs.
