small update.
i finally got round to fitting my custom heatshield to block away the heat that comes off the manifold.

still need to tidy up the edges, but seems pretty good.

also did a compression check today. car was pretty warm, but no boiling hot.

thought id update things with some new pics.....

Install of my AEM water/meth injection kit!

ignore the messy boot!

LED on in the dash. only temptorary at the moment. i may drill a hole for it at some point. this tells me when its on, error codes, the intensity of the pump and spray, due to the progressive nature of the kit. it basically gets brighter the faster the pump is spraying the water, perfect.

anyway, due to the nature of my setup, ive just bought some nice powerflex lower engine mounts.
this will hopefully stiffen up the whole engine and stop almost all the rocking which is what must be causing my manifold and screamer pipe to break.
it also improves throttle response and gear changes i believe due to this reduction in forward/backwards engine movement. so another added bonus...!!

anyway, mounts

another update

a custom made manifold is on the cards in the next few weeks....
better collector, thicker stainless, and all made from the same grade material, unlike the present manifold!!!

the guys works is great, so hopefully i dont have any cracking issues for a fair old while (2 year warantty on cracks/splits!), thats how confident he is.

was either this, or go for a gt3071/76, but i like the rare custom setup of the apexi IHI turbo. so gona stick with it, see if i can produce similar things that NoddE has with his.
plus good to be different!!! that turbo kit is rare as hell!

while the turbo kit is off, i think its a good time to paint up some of the piping. maybe inlet manifold to.

its taken a while to get rid of the awful skanky clear hosing that came with the car on import, been busy doing other things. but finally got round to finishing my full breather filter setup.
finally finished the isc one, this isnt going to improve anything apart from visually. but thought id neaten things up and have my custom intake pipe completely free from any extra lines.....

before
Image

after my the second can and oem catchcan breather filters....this did help reduce the oil vapour in the ic pipes...there wasnt much at all anyway, but every little helps.

Finally got to replacing the old apexi filter that was on there for a nice new geniune item. Difference is quite crazy. The old one was pretty dam dirty.

seeing as my car is giving me a bit of grief recently,

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... 27&start=0

thought it a good time to take a view bits off and give them a good clean and paint.....
should look awsome hopefully....

(not sure why this pic is missing the throttle body, and all the ajoining throttle body parts, but hey ho)

update with what ive been doing the last 2 months.....

back in the car!
Image

Image
Image
Image

also a few more discoveries, i finally found out how my injector resistor pack had been bypassed to accept high impedance injector....
been cut and soldered together by the injector loom plug

Image

sard, or denso 850cc injectors????

Image
Image

i asume these are normal spacers of some kind for the rev3-5 fuel rail???
didnt have them on my rev2.

Image
Image

car in the daylight.

Image

ive got a new custom exhaust manifold to replace the warn manifold i had in there. hopefully this will do me well....
custom, 1 of a kind based on the Apexi design, manifold is now finished, but i got no finished pics of this just yet

Image
Image
Image

i rearranged my dash slightly....
sold the din panel gauges, and just replaced with a oem cd rack....
ive relocated the blitz EBC into this rack as well as placed my AEM water injection led here also.

ive also now hooked up an extra safety feature for the AEM water injection kit....
so if any errors, low on liquid, etc etc it not only sends error codes to my dash LED, but it also grounds out the EBC to make it run on actuator pressure, so an instant safetly device via a relay.....

so apart from that, power fc, manifold, and a new map, and maybe map with methanol injection....car should be back to normal....and hopefully ill be adding some more boost and creeping nearer to 400hp.....

not sure if ive mentioned this, but one of my cams seems like its always been a tooth out, so it should free up even more power on top...
fingers crossed anyway....

been a sad last 2months, missed out on meets, and kent runs and santa pod.
gutted!

either way, this car will get used over the winter, just like my old one did, so it wont be having any rest once its back together!!

Changed the HFH while I had the whole turbo kit off, may as well considering it's only a 5er.
Bloody annoying to get the old one off and new one on tho!!!

And I thought I'd try and give the turbo a light coat of the chrome spray I had left over.
No idea if this will last due to the temps the turbo gets to, but if it works out crap I got some paint remover to take it off.
But is werth a shot, plus I was bored!

New aircon belt on to, and tightened the alt belt.

New oil drain gasket as well that I noticed needed changing.

Manifold should be back with me this or next week now.
Now due to this stupid ar$e power fc and waiting for it, I may be tempted to fit some stock injectors and just run around on the stock ecu. Bit of grief sure, but I want to use the fri88ing car!!!

Anyway

ive been waiting an age to get my new powerFC, so looks like im getting a refund with my supplier and ill get one off ATS....(been waiting 9 weeks for it!!!!).
anyway, while ive been wating for that, as you can see i decided to get a custom 1 off manifold made based on the apexi design, thatll be with me tomorrow. ive also done a few minor tweaks in the bay.....

but until my powerFC arrives, im going to revert back to stock injectors and run low boost on the oem gen3 ecu.
ive had to sort of my resistor pack back to stock, hopefully its ok. also got hold of a gen3 fuel rail/injectors/fpr to just pop back in. DAM THAT WIRING HARNESS NEAR THE RAIL!! annoying! anyway that rail is in now.
Just need to wait to fit the manifold and i can fire it up and use it!!!!

thanks to dex for supplying me with the rail :-)

discovered my larger injectors have an ohm reading 14ohms, and are DENSO injectors.....

also decided id make a nice cheap intake ducting/piping, hopefully feed that turbo nice air a bit quicker....still needs tidying engine bay side, need to cut it to length.
also replaced the old and quite frankly oily, burn oil lines sleeves with some new thinner lightweight ones, oil reisstant and can withstand over a 1000c, so should be good enough.

cheers, there was one for sale last night, went for £430, just the ecu, no commander.
id imagine this one may go for the same.

however at that price, im better off getting brand new from the states and selling the commander. only work out a bit more expensive.

tough decision whether to get a secondhand one

now with this cam timing sorted, new manifold and fuel pump, car feels awsome!!!

certainly must have unleashed some more power with the cam timing corrected! and the new solid manifold will hopefully add a little more

Excellent work Jim.

Will you be re-dyno'ing any time soon?

What was the final outcome with your PFC?

Yeh I just need to book in with Ryan now for a remap.
Obviously need to pop back on the 850s first tho.
I also got some mt90 to pop in the gearbox to.

Powerfc, well seems like my old one was fine!! I've been driving around on it for a day or so over new years. Nothing wrong with it! So all that grief waiting for a new one and paying for a new one! was in vein.
May just keep the old one as a back up. Not sure yet.
