I'm pretty sure my hose is pushed onto a 4mm O.D. pipework.

Perhaps this will make it clear

Plastic cap referred to in 3 is a plastic tyre valve cap and is used to block off the inlet port for the AAV ( Auxiliary Air Valve aka waxstat)
Solenoid goes between A and B
Idle-up pipes are 4mm ID IIRC

Thanks jimi. It was B I could not see. Bummer I have just ordered some 3mm blue hoze from ebay. The 4mm in the local motorfactors looked too big.

3mm will fit, just a bit tight, one thing with 3mm pipe you will probably hear a hissing sound when the idle-up solenoid is energised and think it's a leak, it's not, it's just the velocity of the air travelling through the smaller ID pipe.
I found this out because I fitted 3mm pipe at one stage and spent ages looking for a leak because I could hear hissing  it more or less disappeared when I changed to 4mm pipe
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour

Mine is the original pipe. Maybe its not leaking and the hissing sound is what you discribe JIMI. HMMM so much to do on the car so little weekend time.

Just a bit of an update.

I ran with the 30°c switch for a while and as the weather has gotten warmer the switch would fail to close at all during the day and therefore the choke wouldn't work at all apart from first thing in the morning.

I have now changed the switch for a 50°c one and all is good at the moment.

I don't appear to be having an issue with the switch failing either, but I guess its early days.

How long is the switch staying closed for with the 50 deg one?

RS do another range of thermal switches, one which opens at 40deg and does have silver plated contacts so will be fine for low current DC.

Might try that one on mine as I am in the middle of a choke conversion on my Mk1 at the moment.

Cheers,
David

I'm not sure to be honest. I will do a timed run for you next time I'm out in the garage.

I going to guess at around 4 minutes at idle, but a fair bit quicker than that on the move. Just enough for me to get up to the main road from my house anyway :)
