Not driven around Guildford much, have you Ant? :)
(It's not much like driving around the mountain passes in Japan! :) )

Well, I'm gonna be there! Ever since doing my driving lessons (many in the dark!!!) around there, I've been thinking "if only I had a decent car..."

Well, now I do. So I'd better not suddenly have to cancel!!! :)

lol err yea I spent more time getting lost in Guildford than enjoying it...but the Nov meet had great lil forest runways and plenty of narrow/wide roads...will be great driving at night. Its a change from driving at night in London..not so many lights...hopefully when i get my HID's fitted on sat should be all gravy :)

dont worry mate, no-one will expect you to drive any quicker than you want to, I'm not too hot on the route so will be taking it "easy" myself, plus, no one will be too silly, last thing we want is pc plod breaking up the convoy

This isn't a criticism in any way but I just wonder if the 2 group thing will put people into race mode - more so than normal? The first group will want to push on to make sure they're not caught up and the chasing group will want to narrow the gap as much as possible... I only say this as I know how enthusiastic people get on the meets and am always a bit surprised at how much some speed through built up areas for example :-s

Why not have both groups leave at the same time, regular attendees at the front and newbies at the rear with an organiser at the front and in the middle?

Seeing as it will be pitch black, is it also worth putting a no-overtaking policy in place to prevent people coming off at corners too? (no overtaking MR2s at least)

Don't want to interfere but just a couple of things that came to mind. Interested to know your thoughts Malcolm :-k

All Good points chap. I think the thing we need to be clear on is that we are just going for a drive, not a race.

Malc and I went for a tour with the MX5 owners in Feb and it was a top day, just cruising along at the speed limit and enjoying the whole experience, no overtaking each other, no racing and no daft manouvers (apart from the leader driving on the wrong side of the road at 1 point #-o )
I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

Leon the only problem with having the newbies at the back is....

1. They will feel like the kid that got picked last in football lol! Like they are just tagging along.

2. If the pace does pick up, which it is bound to due to hardly any traffic on the roads, then the newbies may fall back and get lost!!

Totally agree that overtaking should be kept to a minimum. A good plan would be to run the route a few times marking the only truely safe places to overtake.....If anyone gets out of order on the night then they get an ear bashing on here and a refusal at future Guildford meets lol!

What is classed as a n00b on this run? Chances are I won't have done the route before, certainly not at night when things can look completely different.

I think the idea of doing this in just a sensible manner of follow the leader is the best bet. Will cause less chaos between participants and if everyone is in agreement then thats cool. if you want to have a quick burn then drop back from the car in front and then catch up. Just bare in mind the people behind will have to do the same.

What ever is "planned" its down to the people driving to adhere to the rules set out.

That's bound to happen but its probably the safest solution? The alternative is for everyone to be together and people feeling pressured to push on beyond their normal limits = mistakes in the dark :?

That's why you have an organiser such as yourself leading the newbie pack (i.e. in the middle), and probably someone at the back too.

How would others know where they are? I say no overtaking period.

I agree. No overtaking gets my vote on this run.

Is it worth doing a run in the daytime at the next guildford meet? (assuming anyone whos listed can make it), the more people who will have done the route before, the less chance they have of getting lost, and will be able to help out people who do(bit like what Ant said)

I think it might be an idea to keep cars of "similar" power together in the group if we are saying no overtaking- i know id feel pretty bad if one of the more powerful tubbys got stuck behind me and there was nothing i could do as they cant overtake

just my 2p worth
