you are just being ridiculous with the imperial measurements now.

it is sooo convenient to fill up a transmission when toyota says litres and redline sells oils in U.S. quarts.

I am going to develop my own silly system. Main unit will be one "banana", which equals to 180.31451452mm. Now lets call 7,25 bananas an "arrow". and there you have it, a imperial system :D just so convenient ;)
oh, and let's have different bananas, american bananas will be longer, because america is better

Since you're all being ridiculous.

Lets measure fuel in mpg. Distance per volume.

Or maybe gallons per mile? Volume per distance.

That's L^3 / L.

Therefore we could measure our fuel usage in L^2.

Yeah xxxx it lets use meters squared for fuel consumption. It's easy when you've worked it out.

Wow, hornets nest!

I didn't know the MOT allowed kph or mph, was assuming it was only miles.

My understanding is that imports over 10 years old only need to pass an MOT and then you can potter down to the DVLA to register it. Imports under that need an IVA and that specifies a speedo that can show mph so I had to change the overlay on my Mitsubishi. One of the steps at the VOSA centre is to test the speedo for accuracy and thats done in mph. The odo still reads in km obviously but to my surprise the mileage (km-age?) stated on the MOT certificate actually has km as units.

So sounds like I _could_ just keep the kph speedo in the SC and I probably will for the expediency of getting it registered. But personally I don't like the JDM speedos that much, just not enough numbers and too much empty space.

Standards -- so many to choose from.

My '96 Trueno had a speedo in KMs, had no problems with it at all. My current Mk1 SC had the original JDM clocks until a couple of years ago, when they were swapped to a USDM SC MPH set - this was in Northern Ireland though, so not sure if that has any bearing.

Curiously, there's still a KM/h - MPH conversion sticker on the dash

Hours are too consistent time measurement Paul. It's time to come up with some more random units. It puzzles me that imperials didn't pioneer this area of endless fun :-D

All this "metric is better" "easier to use" "easier to break down units" "The UK went metric" etc, etc, etc.
I assume that time measurement is metric ? minutes, hours, days, months, years ???

If you want to really confuse the MOT, try my speedo (on an imported SC):

Sorry for the area in white from the flash.

But you look at it and it all looks fine. But look closer and start working out the incremements in MPH and then try it in KPH.
Has passed two UK MOT's so far but I admit I use the SatNav as I give up on the speedo.

And never had a speeding ticket, ever. 8)
So far.

By the way, in respect of importing, I imported from Eire so still outside the UK. All I needed was an MOT and then the documents, no VOSA inspection.

Oh, and a floor. Turned out I didn't have one  and the MOT required one. #-o

Bloody hell Kate!

Is that an overlay? As I have both JDM km/h and USDM mph clocks, and neither of them are that messy... :S

No wonder you use the satnav

I am hoping to rely on the following exchange:

Officer: So, Madam, how fast do you think you were going?
Kate: Not a clue, but doesn't she look gorgeous?
Officer: Good point, on your way.

The top speedo is the one that came with my JDM import SC, with crappy paper stick on overlay. The one in the panel below is a UK spec one I transplanted

Also note the different tacho redline between the SC one and the NA one behind.

Most I ever got out of a tank was about 350 miles ( same size tank as NA ) driving like a granny, and the least was 65 miles on a trackday at Trac Mon 8) . Averaged about 250 miles/tank in normal driving

That's interesting I thought being a SC it would be quite poor on the old mpg but I only get 230 to 280 miles out of mine depending on how I drive and ive just got a normal 1.6.

Remember the SC is clutched, and only engages when the engine is under heavy load i.e. when accelerating or at high speed
