The ever growing collection

Post by supermac »

Just to clear up a point stevenb, I think you are confusing me with another north-east member, namley michael sheavills my son and heir. Mike has the grand collection, one of which still lives in my garage, the white T-bar. Won best T-bar at JAE this year. at his house he has an 89 s/c tin top, mica blue, 87 n/a coupe, mica blue, 89 n/a coupe, helios blue, and his fiance jo has a red 88 n/a coupe. Add to this an MX5 and an Escort,RS 2000 4WD. Would you buy a second hand from this man????

I live in Calderdale, W. Yorks and Im 26 :D

love my MR2, its the first MR2 I've had but always wanted one.

Unfortunately my radiator went on the M1 just outside sheffield on the way to Retro Cars show and I've only just fixed it so I am just getting back into driving it (but trying to take it easy :P )

Hello, just joined the forumy thing... A couple of you might know/remember me from the Ripon Show this May .. I own a 1989 n/a t-bar in white as is expected, I have owned it for 3 years now and had minimal problems with it, although this year saw me having a few starting problems which a BIG thanks =D> must go to Alan Jones for help and supplying parts to get me mobile again, .. I live in East Yorkshire, and rarely see any other local mark 1's flying around, so feel a little isolated here, hopefully will get to attend more events next year....

This is a good idea. Recognise some of the South East names on posts in here!!!

I'm Andrew Jackson and live in Banstead, Surrey. Have a white t bar...one of the last ...and go along to some South East meets. Married, have two kids, 12 and 14. Elder one Sam comes along to meets particularly the pubs as he's recently discovered beer!

I work in publishing, on a flexible consultant basis - my wife has her own little business so I usually have to do the school run!

I'm bit of a Mark 1 addict having had my first ten years ago. Run some other cars for family use but still get the MR2 out couple of times a week.
Thought about getting an SC recently after Steve Kingsnorth worked on me but can't bear thought of ever selling my current vehicle!

Okay, this seems like a good place to introduce myself - I'm Pete and I am the current custodian of a '87 Mica Blue T-bar

I bought this as a bit of a project, it was basically sound but needed some TLC as the last few owners seem to have been running it on a budget (the tyres gave it away!) - however I have approached it with my eyes open. I'm a researcher by day, but love to play with anything mechanical in my free time with a particular interest in old cars and motorcycles

The last car was a '72 Triumph 2000 but Sarah (the fiancee) deemed that to be impractical as she couldn't see over the steering wheel! I've wanted a MR2 for many years so it seemed the ideal replacement - it is certainly more "her size" and has met with approval, I now just need to get around to selling the Triumph :(

Currently spending far too much money on tidying the car up, but it is worth every penny in the enjoyment I get from driving it :D. Pics of work to date to follow

Looking forward to tapping on your collective wisdom

Wayne, its an absolute MINTER and I mean MINTER, one of the best in the UK. Hopefully we will get to meet up with Dave and see the car for real at the 1st Sunday Social meeting on the 4th September.

Hi

I'm Andrew, I'm 29 and live in Brighton. I bought my current MR2 about a month ago, it's a 1987 white over silver T-bar supercharger with a manual gearbox. My girlfriend has named it Wayne since this was the first name that came to mind given the letters on the numberplate. She also said it looked like a Wayne kind of car - I'm sure I should apologise to anyone called Wayne reading this! We've got a white and black Mini Cooper that's called Floyd too.

I bought my first mk1 in Sept 2002, sold it last September and then missed it! If you see G672 RMV anywhere then that's him! He went up to the Midlands.

I'm hoping to join the MR2 Mk1 Club but would like the form that lets me set-up a direct debit can anyone PM me the details of how to join? Thanks, and hopefully see some of you soon - there seem to be plenty of folks in the South East.

Hi,

Just bought a Dark Blue D plate T Bar. 117k miles - very happy with. Found a very garage in the South West for servicing. Cam belt, major service, ALL fluids changed (with ForLife) for about £350. I thought it was resonable for ex-Toyota mechanics who knew how to drain the coolant and put it properly back together.

Looking to restore back perfect condition, so will be posting enquries as I cant put a shelf up without breaking it !!!!!

Hi Geoff, Tom here! :D
Glad to see you back on the Forum, you've been away a long time!

Did you find / buy some metric spanners? I don't think Whitworth spanners will fit! :D

(P.S You're more than welcome to borrow mine, I've got just about two sets of everything  )

Hello fellow MK1 owners.

Post by j0nathan »

Hi,

This seems like as good a place as any to introduce myself properly. My name's Jon and I am the owner of a rusty Black MK1a. I hail from the North West and joined the MR2MK1 Club 4 days before JAE where I met some of you. My girlfriend is a widow to my car and dreads me mentioning anything to do with MR2's.

My car was in one piece until last night when I thought I'd have a prod and a poke and see how bad the rust was. I ended up with car in one hand and passengers rear lower quarter in the other - oops. Now I really need to find a reputable repairer since my previous experience with bodyships regarding the MK1 is that they really don't know the car very well at all (£££££!). If any one can recommend a good bodyshop in the North West (I'm in the Preston area but am willing to travel) I would be very pleased to hear from you.

I'm very pleased to see a dedicated forum to the MK1 since I hate trawling through the endless MK2 posts (no offense to MK2 owners but I'm trying to find info on the MK1) - a filter would be handy?!?

Keep up the good work and look forward to meeting more of you. Can any body let me know when the next North West meet is - Ryan did give me his phone number but I can't find it at the moment.

Thanks,
Jon
