so yesterday i was bleeding the cooling system and all was well until i blipped the throttle and :splutter: :conk: :dead:. i started it back up and it cut out. and a gain. oh dear.

i popped the airfilter off and gave the afm flap a poke and the fuel pump didn't run. hmm...

stuck a SOS up on two brutal and paul woods told me which wires did what so followed the testing procedure and discovered id lost the AFM earth somewhere between the oil level sender and the chassis. so my plan for tomorrow is the meter the loom to find if the brake is before or after the sensor. if its after the (already broken and looped out) sensor, ill just earth the wire to the block and all will be well again....

they send these things to try us.


so all that said and done, i ran it for a while with my temporary earth in place to run it up and get all the bubbles out of the coolant lines and i took a video of my OBD live data.

Had the same problem with a v6 conversion we done.
There is a sensor for low oil level which cuts the earth to afm and stops the engine before damage occurs so worth checking.

yes the oil sensor has already long since been looped out so im thinking its a broken wire

Sorry to hear of your problems. I had been catching up with your progress on this project and a shame it has caused you problems. I am looking into maybe a v6 mr2 myself. GLWTS.

ive looked through the recording of the livedata from my obd tool just before it started knocking the timing went Waaaay advanced and stayed there. im pretty sure the ecu caused it, if (big if) i rebuilt it id want to fit another ecu. i think i screwed up the resistor mod or my ecu wasnt compatiable with it, and this is the result. two blowups can be no coincidence....

The one time I honestly can say I felt the same as you was with a FD RX7 I had. It stung me for cash like a barstard. I drove it to my mates to break it and can honestly say I had never been happier!

I've only been in a RX8 once. It was owned by Hayward Rotary and essentially stripped out for track. Handled and went better then I expected.

My old FD RX7 was a bridgeported single turbo. It used to idle at 2k rpm due to the engine, impossible to drive at low speed and needed a second mortgage for the fuel bill. If it had been reliable and not a weekly failure point I'd have maybe lived with the negatives but it relentlessly pushed me to the limit.

Hindsight I'd have done a street port, kept it more stock and maybe it would have been different.

Enjoy the RX8. A lot of car for the money.

lol no, i like the idea of the rotary revvyness..

it might get a bit more track foccussed, but the mods will probably stop with brakes and suspension. bar adding cruise control, which ive already done
