Hi Jeremy

May I congratulate you on your good work.

It may seem an obvious question, but with your modifications can you change the switchover point between open and closed loop?

My CS Celica will quite happily cruise at 100 blats per hour off boost so it would be super if this were to be done at 14.7 AFR in closed loop!

Curious

Just some quick pics of log graphs to wet the appetite. These are from a 10 minute run carried out this evening (on a private road of course :roll: )

Please bear in mind that this particular GUI is nowhere near finished and is just the most convenient way to display the data quickly. There are several calibration issues between the data coming from the logs and the ECU scale that are currently being taken care of (don't take these numbers as final kids but they are very nice relative comparions).

Anyway.....

MPH = Indicated Speed (in MPH)
THW = Thermistor - Water Temperature (in Celcius)
THA = Thermistor - Air Temperature (in Celcius)
AFM = Air Flow Meter Resistance (higher is more flow)
RPM = Engine RPM
TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
TVIS = Variable Induction Butterfly (Open/Closed)
EFI = Injector Bandwidth (in mS)
IGN = Ignition Advance (in degrees)
MPG = Electric Seats (On/Off)
FFS = Fuel Sensor
LOL = Lubricant On Line
OMFG = Seriously, are you not getting this yet? :)

Fig 1 - The larch

The larch.

The.....larch.

Fig 2 - Pull Away from Stationary followed by hard acceleration in 3rd and 4th gear. Note the injectors running to 100% duty cycle and the MPG dropping.

Image

Fig 3 - A steady cruise at about 40mph - ECU is mostly in closed loop mode. Note the TPS and ignition advance drop as the car begins to hit a longish downhill section and it's changed to 5th and the throttle is dropped.

Image

Fig 4 - A pull away after the car has been sat for a couple of minutes. Note the long slow pull away in 2nd and 3rd using minimal throttle and the drop in coolant temp as airflow over the radiator begins to take effect.

Image

Hope this is of interest and.......

THIS IS NOT A SCREENSHOT OF A FINAL PRODUCT. IT'S FOR INFO ONLY AND YES I KNOW THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE SCALES THAT ARE NEEDED

They are coming folks - relax yourselves ;)

Once you've got the raw data values -vs- time, you can manipulate the data however you like - right? It's just a tweak and development of the logging tool.

Damn straight - I have already used it to tell me that a suspect lamda sensor is in fact working perfectly :) No more guess work with multimeters - just drive along, hit log and see the data.

Those data logging graphs look really good will certainly be very handy indeed for fault finding.

Can't wait now :D

Since there have been many engine swaps in the german community in the last couple of years, I expect that there also will be good resonance to this project. There are many guys who couldn't get hold of a rev3 and thus planted a rev2 JDM 3S-GTE to their cars.
I planned to install MSII this year, but was not so comfortable with the limited knock prevention support - this solution looks much more attractive to me.

Thanks Stephen
It is possible to alter the crossover thresholds but it's unrealistic to alter it too much because the way the mapping is arranged.

Hi Tom
Did you do this with the new fuel GUI?

This GUI shows the 02 sensor in both analogue and digital format.
i.e. it shows the true sensor voltage in real time in millivolts and also in digital format after the ECU comparator (rich/weak)

In theory the red pointer on the analogue display should waggle either side of 450mV if the o2 sensor is healthy.

Also it shows the Idle Speed Control Valve position in real time (ultimately this can be cal'd in degrees rotation)

Also closed loop fuel trim, speed, rpm and mpg.

Did you try the new boost guage on the older GUI?
Also, the datalogged AFM trace above is really this new boost guage reading from the PIM sensor.

when you load the data file again click on the trace with a mouse to get data for boost in psi.

Also there is a timer to 0.1second on the mouse pointer.

Can you email me some datalogger files and I'll post up an install file for the reader program so others can play with the datalogged data from your car.

Note: it's possible to datalog whole journeys eg a 45minute drive and play it all back (the datalogged file is huge though, eg 30Mb)

Indeed I did :mrgreen:

I've sent several emails to you with the data logs and feedback but I haven't had any responses so I assumed you ere snowed under - have you not got the mails I sent?

Edit: Just checked and I sent this data to you on the 24th

That's strange...
The last email I got was on the 18th.

Maybe my email filter has condemned you as a regular spammer of huge MR2 data files! :lol:

I've just sent you a test email.

Strange indeed....

I've replied to your mail and forwarded a copy of the mail with the log that I sent on the 24th - if you don't get them both then something odd is going on with attachments.

Let me know! :)

Mystery solved:
I just logged directly into the btinternet email website (instead of using MS Outlook) and found your old emails! :o

Btinternet kindly spamguarded them and put them in a folder called 'bulk'

SpamGuard Plus is ON:
With SpamGuard turned on, Yahoo! Mail will deliver suspected spam to this folder and delete them after one month.

I guess I'll turn 'Spamguard' off from now on... :lol:

If anyone wants to have a quick play with the dataviewer (still being tweaked) you can download and run it here:

http://www.jmrhzu.btinternet.co.uk/Rev2 ... taview.exe

You can load Tom's journey and play it back. You really need a 1GHz P3 PC or better to run it or it will take ages to refresh.

Make sure you use the mouse to click on the traces to get data and the timer (data is shown in text in LH corner of the viewer)

Also, use the Trace Slider control to navigate through the whole 11 minute journey. You can use the green +/- buttons for finer navigation control.

Note: The data is quite grainy because the current logger program is logging far more stuff than is shown on the viewer traces. eg engine load, TVSV, knock activity, error codes, IDL switch status, closed loop status, EFi trim plus a few others.

Depending on PC speed you can get between 100 and 200 data requests a second.

What did surprise me, however, was the jitter on the boost guage trace especially at high boost.

It looks like there could be a lot of noise on the stock pressure sensor(PIM) signal and this upsets the data display (?)

Tom, can you try this new version of the viewer as well? It should be a bit better than the one you currently have.

Jeremy, my anti-virus software found a virus in your dataviewer program.
