Beautiful garage. Jealous!

That little Mk.1 charger looks lovely. I can't believe she'd want to do the road trips as well though! Mine's happier asleep... Or at home

Wouldn't be a road trip without her on it, she part of our small group :thumleft:

A new build thread (or extending your existing one) is a must, Ben. If for nothing more than people to admire your very fetching outbuilding

Calum: Mine sleeps too, don't you worry about that

And so the inevitable happened, I started meddling...

While I appreciate the importance of a boost gauge on a boosted car, I didn't feel the gauge's location was in keeping with our approach going forward. So I set about moving it...

It was sat on top of the dash, in the void where normal folk place and accumulate random stuff. Random stuff rattling around in cars is one of my pet hates so something had to give.

Image

Off with the mount and time to seek out the hose.

Image

Found, gauge removed and hose extended.

Image

Hose cut to length, mount modded and ready for a test fit.

Image

Test fit.

Image

Original cover piece cleaned and popped back into it's true home.

Image

The results.

Image

Image

And it works!

Image

I chose that location as the gauge is still clearly in eyesight and if needed the car can be driven with the glovebox open, allowing for whatever monitoring is needed. When not needed it can be closed and stealth mode resumed.

That's all, for now...

I think all of us are guilty of having that love hate type relationship with our cars Phil - I know I have called mine a few things in the past that have been less than complimentary. I am Glad Ben's Super Charger has gone to a good home - bet you have started cleaning and polishing already.

That would do my head in, having to opening the glove box to view the boost gauge on the other side of the car.

Surely it would be better placed, with minimal distraction to the driver or taking eyes from the road? i.e. where it was..

Sounds to me like you got bored Phil.

Far from it. In the real world who needs to sit and monitor their boost all the way through each journey, unless you've either made a change or suspect something isn't running as it should?

yep gotta agree with what you are saying.. it never "needs" to be there, but at least if you ever have a problem it is possible to monitor, good work
defo inkeeping with originality of the car

Nah, it was only a temporary placement there. I just got used to it! Plus, you don't get overboost problems with an SC like you would with a turbo.

I'm surprised you didn't use the nice Greddy one I left you, Phil ;)

The supercharger didn't have a boost gauge mounted stock, in the clocks etc.?

Since the top-end rebuild the SC had been suffering from low rev hesitation, which was suspected to be due to having the wrong spark fitted by the garage. At the time I didn't have a spark removal socket (somehow I'd never bought one) so ordered the tool, along with what I'd read to be the correct sparks for an SC.

The new sparks arrived and were ready to fit.

Image

I started to take out the old ones and noticed plug 1 was covered in oil

Image

The rest were fine.

Image

With the new plugs fitted I took it out for a test drive and the difference was immediately apparent, the hesitation was gone :D Then after speaking to Pete and Ben we decided that the oil was likely left over from the head build and after later removing them to check there was no subsequent oil on any plug *phew*.

As the garage is home to the shouty plastic one the SC will be living on the drive, for now at least... Rather than leave it sat exposed to the elements Adrienne bought it a nice new cover.

Image

We chose the Halfords one as after reading loads of feedback on the net from people who'd purchased the various offerings out there, the Halfords was looked to be great value for money. It fits really well, with one end elasticated (like a bed sheet ) and three straps/clips which feed under the body and hold it in place. Pretty good timing too as it had just been washed and polished (Adrienne this time, as it should be), then less than a minute after putting it over the car it absolutely hammered it down with rain!

Image

Absolutely zero work done (or needed) on the Busa, other than routine checks etc and cleaning up oil it spits out of the breather if the dry sump tank is overfilled! Lesson learnt :eye:

I do try to use it for jobs that you'd normally use a normal car for, more for the experience of seeing what happens. Things like a trip to the bottle bank, to prove they do have some element of practicality to them, honest O:) You do have to forgo things like passengers of course, which on that day wasn't an issue as she was away

Image

Brimmed the tank and just spent the whole day driving out, with no particular destination in mind. So basically driving around looking for random stuff, getting lost and finding your way home  I did find a few spots to stop off, get some lunch and take some photos though.

Not much else to report right about now. Something potentially significant on the horizon but there'll be more on that if/when it happens. Got some decisions to make first...
