Time for bobby to get flamed but as I understand it its when the wastegate is insuffiecient or whatever means of getting the gas out of the turbine end of the turbo isnt up to the job. you get a bottle neck of flow and you'll feel the car suddenly lose power then as the turbione reaches a efficient level (turbine design can shift air at some pressures/speed better than others) it suddenly clears and the car bolts forward. I suffered this fitting a CT20b to my rev1 to a slight degree.

In my case, above 1.7bar on the dyno the turbo was producing to much air for the engine to process so it created a block which in turns starts to stall the turbo. Its not a big jerk - its just a hesitation and a flutter noise.

I have advanced the ex cam a couple of degrees and this has enabled me to run 1.7 on the road.

To run more boost i need to be looking down the stroker route along with ported head and O/S valves so the engine has the capacity to cope with the sheer volume of air the turbo is producing.

wouldn't advancing your exhaust cam cause the turbo to recieve more exhaust energy that perviously enabling it to create even more airflow at a certain RPM?

Yeah it brings spool up time down which is good but also alows the motor to breath easier causing less of a restriction - thus allowing me to run more boost. It also pulls harder top end to - everyones a winner :thumleft:

fair play.

Didn't they play with the cam timing when setting the car up? would have been something i throught they would have done to find the best ballance of car and cam set up.

I set the cam timing to the guide lines of HKS. Rob asked what it was set to and when i told him he said that usually they dont need to do much if anything to them.

In all fairness he was going to advance it on the day but as i had it done on a SAt they closed @ 1 and we were already past that so we settled nicely for the 500.

Once ive done a few more bits ill be back down there as there is quite a bit more to come yet \:D/

yeah lots of messing around with cam timing and usually trial and error but can result in some good improvements, but all that trial and error costs money with labour.
