Well I managed to get a few hours on the car today. I've been jumping back and forth from working in the cabin, to the engine bay, to the boot... So, I'm going to exercise some will power and stick to the one bit and get it completely finished.

I've decided to start with the boot...

The boot was in a poor and sorry looking state so I've decided to give it some rust-proof paint treatment where it needs it, which includes the boot floor.
I will be painting the inner wheel arches (once I weld them shut) and also the engine bay because it too is in a sorry state... VERY dirty! :(

I washed the inside of my rear bumper... Never done that before. I'm such a pervert!

Photos are after primer. I've still to finish the top coat.

Thanks.

I got the email today for my date for travelling back to Angola, so I've got until 23rd Feb to finish the boot. I should manage!!

Picking the head up tomorrow. Pressure tested and all is well. It's a start...

Look for some inspiration here...

My plan is to get the rear subframe and adjoining parts powdercoated, but can't decide on a colour scheme. The car is silver with a black roof, so silver and black would be nice and subtle, but I'd like something else.

I plan on taking the cage out and powder coating it the same colour as the subframe to carry the colour through the car.

Any suggestions???

Boot floor (underside) finished.
Going to spray the boot floor (inside) the colour of the car and lacquer it tomorrow.

Then I'll be welding up the arches from cutting them and giving the inner arch the same treatment. I'll also be doing the engine bay.

It's been an expensive day today...

Ordered;

ACL Race Series bearings for the whole bottom end.
ATS Racing 87.5mm 8.3:1 (5S) forged pistons.
Pauter forged con-rods.
Moroso oil pan.

Should have the parts from ATS in 7 weeks. Can't wait to get the import tax bill!

Big thanks to Peter Gidden (S-bits), and Ashley. Both steering me in the right direction with this build and always happy to give advice... Top blokes!

Once I receive all parts, i'll be send them and the 5S block and crank down to Peter for him to coordinate all machining that's required, and to also completely build the full bottom end for me.

Still got lots to do to the car in the mean time...

It's a long road!

Thanks, Ash.

Pistons are Wiseco and are custom made for the 5S.

All I need to do is spec my fuel system and head...

Camshaft choice is one of, if not the most difficult ones to make imo...so many variables to take into account! Other than that- your head should be easy mate, just make sure whoever does any work on it for you actually gas flow tests it...tis easy to fek these heads up if you just go at them without any real testing :thumleft:

Peter was telling me of a brand of camshaft that can't be mentioned... Sounds interesting!

Ric Wood CNC will be doing it. 8)
That's who did yours, isn't it?

Head - where's best / cheapest to buy all parts for the head? Including Ferrea 1mm oversize valves etc.

Single valve springs be enough, since I don't plan on increasing the rev limit?
Or, double, just in case?

What else should I buy?

Checked the tracker from USPS there...

Pistons, rods and Moroso sump are in the UK at the local depot awaiting charges to be paid.

I suspect I'll receive notification tomorrow in the mail.

All I need then is;

Crankshaft rear oil seal housing (new seal)
5SFE - Oil pump pick up (lost is disassembly)
5SFE - Oil cooler (also lost!)

Then it's all going down to Peter Gidden for him to coordinate the machining and for him to completely build the bottom end.

After being passenger at Knockhill last week, I cannot wait until mines is finished!! 8)
