It's been officially announced today by Toshiba that they intend to stop all production of HD DVD players by March.

That HD DVD player was £120 about a week ago...

I've just made a shocking discovery. You cant get Transformers on Blu Ray.

The new one before any one says it. You can get the old 86 cartoon on blu ray. Not sure why, I mean it's not like it's gonna loo great, it's a 22 year old cartoon for crying out loud.

In fact I just bid on one on ebay lol.

matt_mr2t wrote:Yes there needs to be a price reduction I confess.
I might leave it a while and may be see if a cheapo 2nd hand ps3 comes up and use it as a BR player only lol.

I wont be buying games for it. Also wont be paying as much as a blu ray player costs for it.

It dawned one me PS3's with HDMI leads are going on ebay for about £200 which is less than a stand alone unit.

Also read some players take ages to load up the discs because they're stuidly over sized. Yet the PS3 doesnt suffer it?

But if I cant get one in price range I wont be getting one.

Transformers should come to blu-ray eventually. Its got to be the best HD film out at the moment.

The only games I would consider for the PS3 would be PS3 only games.

If they're available on both platforms then it'll be 360 all the way.

Btw, I havent bought a PS3 yet lol. I'm only interested if I can pick one up used for around £200.

What films are good in HD?

Are the old ones even worth buying in HD/Bluray?

I dont get how if they werent filmed in that format that they can then be converted?

I've seen 300 in HD.

Matt,

I think you will like the ps3 as a bluray player but also as a games machine it is just that good ,We ie the GF and I own both a ps3 mine and 360 elite hers ,I still beleive the ps3 is the better machine but I also play the 360 lol ,The bigest thing for me is the build quality and what you get as standard for your money .

We own more bluray films than games but only just  and thats only cause ive got Planet Earth on bluray which by the way is so good :thumleft: also just bought new resident evil flick (watched that last night) :thumleft:

I buy my bluray in Asda or Blockbuster as they are so much cheaper than say Hmv/Zavvi unless they have 3for2 offers on generally Asda is about 8 to 10 pound cheaper per film than say HMV  I paid 18 squid for resident evil 3 on bluray yet play wanted 23  Hmv 28 WTF.

Yes it's region free.

I'm sure its good with the games but I dont need too games machines and I already have one.

If there is a game thats PS3 exclusive and I really really want it I could be tempted.

Otherwise I will continue to buy 360 games and will continue to build on the gamer score on the 360 I have.

There would be no point really in mixing when you have both consoles unless like you say its exclusive to the PS3. I find all the xbox games i would get i can get for the pc so do that instead.
