Excellent. I had nightmarish visions of changing the security settings and screwing my network up! Thanks.

FWIW, I run WEP (for legacy reasons) on the wireless portion of my home network, and I just stuck the key in and off it went. Seems to have pretty good reception as well, compared to the Mac which is sat near to it.

In answer to your questions :

1) Er, you can play games off the hard drive. Lauren certainly can play warhawk off her hard disk, given that she bought & downloaded it online. I've not tried it.

2) I've not tried blueray on a non-HD, but I would assume it makes no difference at all over standard DVD.

Yes, you can download games from the PSN. I've done this loads. Also can download trailers, demos, full games etc.

Well blu-ray discs are way better than DVDs, another galaxy in terms of definition. Obviously you won't get the benefit on a non-HD TV though it ought to be the best possible picture you can get really.

When you do get an HDTV the PS3 is a rather good upscaler for DVDs, so it improves the picture significantly, not as good as Blu-ray, but definately an improvement over standard DVD quality.

I should think so. Must admit we have a VGA input on our TV so we tend to do it that way. So in that respect i haven't tried it, though on GT5 prologue demo there is a 'GT-TV' option where it downloads vids to play. Ditto PSN, but not tried to play say initial D on the PS3.

Would recommend DiRT over Motorstorm if you get the chance. Also i've got F1 but really don't rate it. Really think DiRT is the best driving game at the moment available on the PS3.

Obviously you can download GT5 prologue demo from the Japanese PSN (Playstation Network). Its only a demo, but does look good.

Other option (highly recommended) is ditch F1 in favour of Warhawk, you get a bluetooth earpiece with the blu-ray disc version). :+:

I will be getting warhawk at some point. Im buying a package deal I think its 349 with 2 free games (f1 and motorstorm). How come you dont rate f1? Are the driving physics not realistic? I believe it has driving aids that you can switch on and off. I am a driving sim addict and would want the abitity to switch em off so I hope they can be or Ill opt for a different game.

The trouble with F1 games is that you can never tell if they are realistic or not. Yes you can turn all the bad aids off which does make it more interesting, but i guess i just get bored very quickly with a choice of what is essentially just one car.

The virtual racing line with shaded areas for braking, acceleration and a balanced throttle is useful in trying to get to grips with when to brake etc from 200mph. I reckon i have played about 4-5 hours on it, before it started gathering dust. I have never been a fan of F1 racing sims though, simply because the realism is not possible to judge. I've tested a formula renault for real but even that doesn't give me a good idea of what an F1 car would be like. I too love racing sims, my fave by far would be Toca 3 on the PS2 which was great for online racing (i used to race in a league). Motorstorm looks great and you can race online, though the game itself has no depth.

Colin McCrae DiRT is good, you can race online against up to 100 others, though because its rallying you don't actually see your other competitors though your position relative to the others is updated in real time so it is surprisingly a lot of fun. There is also quite a good offline mode, though i must admit once i started racing online in DiRT the offline mode didn't hold the same interest.

GT5 Prologue is out in December. I've always been a bit dissapointed with the Gran turismo series simply because its more of a driving game than a wheel to wheel hair-raising racing game, though being able to race online ought to address that I hope. There is also the replacement for Toca 3 due out next year which ought to be the best racing sim out there if its predecessor is anything to go by. It uses the same physics engine as DiRT. I also always use a wheel for driving games where possible.

I have DiRT on the pc. The graphics and physics are bloody good but the fps suffer when racing against other cars due to my lowish ram memory (I have a nice graphics card), also my screen isnt really big enough.
I get your point about the f1 game, I hadnt thought about it like that, but Im glad the options can be turned off.

I've really got bored of warhawk fast!

I'm on line when no one else seems to be (not a big issue).
I have to join random games, where no one talks. If you talk no one will try and get involved with what you try and do or even recommend. Either they can't hear(unlikely) or they just don't give a f***(likely).

Last night I joined a capture the flag game. I helped the team win the first round. We were then way ahead in the second (no communication though), when I was kicked off the server by the admin :? WTF? To start with I had one from my team trying to gun me down. That stopped when I started help recover the round. Then I was taking position defending from the enemy at our flag when I got kicked off. Message came up saying, server admin have decided to kick you out. Game was still running.

Had enough of it TBH. Only time anyone has bothered communicating was the first time I played it, and that was a drunk northerner.

Think I'll keep going with resisitance until I get COD4. Resistance is great online. Played tons of team games. All went well.

It is: oukie

Alex: speedysailor

The resolution on a non-HD TV will be limited by the TV rather than the BD player.

Blu-ray looks quite stunning on our 40" Bravia. :+: Also worth mentioning is that DVDs look pretty good upscaled on the PS3. We always use the PS3 for playing DVDs nowadays.

Have to say, I've racked up a few hours worth of online play since last weekend, and I'm enjoying it more and more. I'm still not very good at it, and there is so much to do, I can see it lasting a while (i.e. getting good at driving tanks, getting good at flying - that's almost a game in itself) as well as the on-foot combat.

Nobody else was online either last night, but didn't stop it from being fun. I guess i'm used to just joining random servers, coming from a CS/TF/TF2/HL/Quake etc background.

Ens, have you tried doing 'Zones'... my fave mode and it encourages teamwork and communication as strategy is vital to win.

Most of the games I join are team death match or flag ones. Not by choice, thats usually what everyone is doing. Whats Zones abbreviated to? Don't think I've played that.
