[quote="Bender Unit I am fed up of living in a flat with no drive, no garage, no garden, moron neighbours who honk their horns at 5am, slam the main doors to the flat, leave rubbish in the hall, reverse into the building, play music at stupid volumes [/quote]

Know what you mean mate....I've just done exactly the same (except I sold my old place)...came very close to offloading the '2 also but glad it didn't come to that.

Quality of life is more than just a car though :-k

Not another North London "bubble" by any chance? ;)

Nice one! Only probs with the agreed value is that some of the parts were bought for cash, although I could probably get a certain TTE engineer to give me a full model report on it, stating what he thinks it'd cost to replace (as some bits are no longer available).

ENSMR2 wrote:So you can get big turbos for the same price as smaller ones? hmm :-k

Yeah, basically. The examples I gave were for say a GT2871 or GT3071 (good for 400-450bhp), or a GT35R (good for 600-650bhp). Both turbos cost about the same (they share many parts) and require the same bits to fit, eg manifold-to-turbo adapter, external wastegate, custom downpipe, etc. So they'd cost you exactly the same to buy and fit, yet one kicks out a lot more power than the other. That's why power output is not proportional to cost. I use a MoTeC M800 ECU with all the "trimmings" (probably cost you about £2.5-3k!) but you could get similar performance from a PowerFC costing nearly a third!). Obviously, you get what you pay for, and that's what I was trying to get across, but both will do the job.

No mate I'm Turkish cypriot. Don't worry I won't talke offence ;) I take it your greek? Not frompalmers green originally are ya? Lol. Must also state I'm not into the whole greek vs turk thing.

So a gt 3037 and a 3040 are basically the same too? I'm gonna have to re read the turbo tech in japanese performance I still don't get it. All the housing sizes and compressor blah blah blah.

My Mrs (Italian American for the record lol) says to try a company called Chris Knitt Insurance Consultants. They have various agreed value options for cars over 5 years old. They can also tailor make it to your needs. Give em a try. Unfortunatly she couldn't find their number!! It should come up if you google them. Also she thinks they might be on the following sire www.aandp.co.uk/motor . She know a few other but had no time to get their details. Should be able to get more after the weekend. She'll speak to a few people too, see if they can do any thing.

OH NO!! I take back ALL the advice I gave so far! LOL ;)

Yes, mate, Greek Cypriot origin (but born and bred in South London). I'm not into all the Greek v Turk thing either - after all, we're genetically the SAME, although we're both different to our mainlander counterparts.

I just hope they can eventually find a fair solution on the island for both sides. :?

In terms of price, yes they're very similar, but all the minute differences in spec can make a big difference. By all accounts, the 3040 is a bit of a mismatch (using the compressor from the GT35R but the turbine wheel from the GT30R).

If you don't know what to look for, these turbo specs are a bit of a minefield. Even when you know what to look for, theory only goes so far, and from there on, the same given spec with work differently on the various 2litre turbo engines out there. Experience and knowledge are both key in knowing which spec to go for.

I've had to rush a bit on this because my policy runs out on Monday morning, and given the hassles I've had in ringing around everywhere over the last couple of days (some people not willing to quote, some not calling back with the quote as promised, getting cut off in the middle of a lengthy quote, etc, etc), I decided to go for the best offer to date. £725 FC with Graham Sykes. I'm sure I could have got it cheaper, but I just got fed up with it all.

I'll be posting on a different thread about all this, because I think people modding so heavily should know a few things!

Very true

Yes about time they sorted that out!

Very keen to hear what problems you have encountered. When I worked in motor claims. Some one once told me it was neve worth submitting info on mods to engine internals as they would never be able to tell anyway. They certainly wouldn't undertake the job of taking apart an engine to make sure! This was from a director.

Apologies if my response comes out wierd. Today I am using a stupid blackberry mobile!! Gotta get the internet up at home!
