I've had budget tyres which handled better than named brands which cost me twice as much!
And I ain't having a go at tony or earl.Just stated some diff't tyre experiences.

I am not being snobby, you can't expect a budget tyre to be as good on a high power car. I've been there!

I've been there also hence the above comment. You are right if u now youre tyres, but the average joe don't.Just saying that a budget tyre (depends also on the brand) can handle as good as a well known branded tyre.
My kit car was a Hi performance car and I used all types and found that some of the budget were just as good at coping.

We obviously have to agree to disagree. :) I wouldn't spend that much on an engine conversion and put on budget tyres. Personally even the Eagle F1s and Toyo T1-Rs are budget tyres to me and do not perform very well on the track. On the road for normal driving, I take your point, most people wouldn't notice. Unless they wellied it of course...

:thumleft: Yes totally agree with u about track. But I did not read any mention about track work and was only addressing the use on road abuse. If I have misread anywhere with regard to track use then I apologise tony, otherwise I stand by what I have written.

Look at it this way...

What bit of your car connects you to the road...?

You pay the earth for all your tuning parts, and make the car look a million dollars, only to skimp on the most important part of all. The bit that puts all those mods to good use! #-o

A V6 is a torquey beast, and will shred tyres in no time, but a V6 with a turbo strapped on it will have a midrange kick like a sledgehammer. Budget tyres (even decent ones like T1-R's), will struggle.

Do yourself a favour, and don't skimp on the rubber. We don't want to be reading about another write off in a couple of months. :thumleft:

So what would you recommened earl!
The bare minimum...?

Toyo T1-R's or Goodyear Eagle F1's for everyday road use. Still middle of the road, but a damn site better than Kumho's etc.

Utter crap(and now I've said it)You don,t always get what u pay for.Thats the point I'm trying to make.I've paid £100 for different tyres which handled crap compared to a budget tyre 2/3 rds of the price.

And yes I agree that u should put the best tyres on that u can afford, but unless u now tyres or now someone who does u can end up paying expensive for basically crap tyres which don't perform like u expect them to for the money u paid.

Are all u saying that u ain't paid expensive circa £100 per tyre and found that they weren't very good(I know I have).

I am not clued up on tyres as I seek advice from the so called tyre experts just like the average person on here probably does. And I have found that you don't always get what u pay for and that sometimes the cheaper tyre is alot better.

It is obvious that you all race so are alot more tyre related than the average on here.So it is understandable that u use top tyres which u have found to stand up to the job at hand.

Sorry whoozy for hijacking your thread like this.I will not post regarding this any more As it seems we are all thinking on different wave lengths.

All I was trying to point out was that more :thumleft: expensive is not always better!

If you are not clued up on tyres, why are we having a discussion? If you agree that it makes perfect sense to put on the best tyres you can afford then what is your argument? Expensive is nearly always better. A bit of nous also helps. I've tried lots of different tyres in lots of different conditions, if there is one thing that holds true it is that cheap tyres are for the most part crap.

Please use 'you' instead of 'u'.[/b]

lauren,it seem like u just want to argue.

The initial first response by me was bcuz(yeh its shorthand)of the reply that cheaper tyres will be crap bcuz(again shorthand) they are cheap compared to the more expensiveve brand.

And coming from an average person like most others who go and buy tyres form there local tyre firms.,and are told pirrelli, goodyear, continental etc etc.

I have found that quite a few of these more expensive brands did not perform as good as some of the cheaper(so called budget tyyres)which I have also tried.

Hence back to the original point, that just bcuz(again)they may be cheaper does not mean??are u getting what comes next?? thought so.

That is the only point I am making!period!I am not saying go and buy the cheap tyres.I ussually buy the so called more expense tyres also.Ones which I have found also to work well.

But for someone to comment that they will be crap just bcuz the are cheap is IMHOis wrong.Don't slate em unless u(whoopee, thers that letter)have tried em.

I wil not be drawn in to this any more, see ya.

I tried. :)

Mate, at least go with the Goodyear Eagle F1s or Toyos, as Earl says, no sense in skimping on the most important part of the car. :eye:

I've used Khumo tyres for 3 years now, as well as lots of other brands...... i personally cant justify paying the extra for street driving, i have never crashed, never skidded off the road, never felt at danger in my car with Khumo tyres and they lasted longer than the toyo's i had previously.

You three are being a little OTT on this, Earl your car is running major power, Toni and Lauren you track race, you are pushing cars to the limit hence the need for every part of the vehicle to be working in harmony.

We all use our cars for different things and all drive them differently and maybe some of us should remember that at times.

Exactly, how much is all this conversion work going to cost and the guy is not going to buy the very best tyres he can afford?

There is no flaws in my statements.(with regards to the point I am trying to make)No doubt u will be going thru it all with a toothcombe now,so you can point something out.lol

FACT:I have puchased expensives tyres.

FACT:I have purchased(so called budget tyres).

FACT:I have found that some of the expensive tyres were crap compared to the budget ones.

That is All I am trying to point out.Nothing more ,nothing less.

here u go earl  Done it for ya.lol(no ill intended)

I do not realise why u are keeping on about track etc when nobody has mentioned using the car for track, hence it will not probably get the abuse which u guys give your cars constantly.

...just flaws in your grammar.

Repeat after me: There are no flaws in my statement.

Now, after that impromptu English lesson... where have I mentioned either the track or racing?

The original poster (whoozy) is asking about tyres intended for a V6 turbo ffs! Do you have ANY idea of the implications of putting crap tyres on something that produces the huge amounts of torque that an engine like that can produce? ](*,)

Do yourself a favour, and read the entire thread before making such ridiculous statements.
