Hi Oilman

I've got a 3sgte being rebuilt, I'm going to run it on the Millers Running In oil and then? I've got a container of Gulf Competition 5w40 but just wondering if going for the Nanodrive would be better? It will be on a standard CT20 turbo (Rev3 Turbo) and only mods are forged pistons.

I guess you could say the Nanodrive 5w-40 is a better oil due to the potential power increase, but the Gulf Competition is proper top end stuff, so I'd use that if you already have it.

Thank you for the advice. I have a technical question about the different thicknesses of Gulf and Millers. If you compare 10w40 in Gulf Competition and Millers CFS the viscosity of the Gulf is 86.1 at 40c and the Millers is 103.7. That looks like quite a difference, is it? The Nanodrive is thicker than both the Gulf and CFS as well.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I've been snowed under and can't find the chart I'm looking for. It does seem like a fairly large difference, but looking at the things I can find, it does seem to be within the boundaries (Gulf is at the thin end of the scale, Millers towards the thick end).

Hi Tim,

I am now deciding what oil to use.
My car is mainly for track/race. One guy recommended me to use bigger bearing gaps and go with a thicker oil (10w60 or something like this).
I am still on standard turbo, but with forged pistons, planning to get maximum of it.

Maybe you advice to use standard gaps and go with recommended oil thickness?

I know it's not your product, but I live in Lithuania, so I have to choose from what we have here

The Motul 300v is extremely good and ideal for race/track use. Though being where you are make sure its genuine stuff!

Being a race car you want to use an oil as thin as oil as possible without compromising protection, all using a 10w-60 will do is sap power due to oil drag.

Do you have an oil temp gauge fitted? If not it is worth doing as oil temps will give you an idea what viscosity oil you can get away with.

I would start with the 10w-40 and see how you get on.

Thank you for your answer. The question is how to find out if it's a genuine product...

I have oil temp gauge in sandwitch plate. After couple of runs at autoX, temp was 120c with 10W40 semi-synthetic oil.

I wanted to use valvoline VR1 10w60, but now probably will choose this Motul oil.

It should be fine as long as the oil temp stays under 130C.
