Job done :)

Chris - how much tread was on those tyres when you got there? That's a lot of scary fabric.

Optimax is easy enough if you know where to go, BP Ultimate is even easier.....

We need a support van with our spare wheels and tyres in.

it was my first time in elvington hence could find garge think about 4 years ago now.............. time flys.

tyres were fairly well down in tread so used the track day to finish em off :)

Plenty of floorspace and room for tents in the garden :)

Just £15 per night, glass of water included.

You'd be better off in Andy's garage, it has heating, carpet, TV.... it's nicer than my living room :)

Tyre wear, crikey ! the surface at elvington, I recon you can defy physics cornering due to the abrasion on the track... ! Cornering will be fantastic in the dry and the wet ! Even the nankraps stand a fair chance at holding the cars in line !

I'm 90% there as long as the exhaust is sorted out on mine and get to throw my turbocharger at some saxo !!

I'll provoke gtschris to come again ! :)

Sounds good to me, I probably wont make a decision until late anyway!. I am currently thinking about buying a pair of 245x35's nankangs or similar to use on airfield days - i just need to find a tyre made of wood so that it will last the day :) BaT have the tyre guys - bookatyre? and I would get the rears swapped at the beginning and end of the day to protect my S03's but save the cost of buying and transporting a set of rims to and from elvington :?

Probably change my mind between now and then though... ;)

Neil, you can use buyatyre.com or simply click on the 'tyres' section of the BaT website.

I wouldn't get nankangs as they are wholly poo and you still want a tyre thats progressive, but simply harder wearing. A539s would be a good bet, but price may be more. I don't suppose you can get S306s in 17" but they are very hard, i hate them though simply because they have zero grip.

I'd say your best bet would be to get part worn decent tyres for airfield days. Its a pity you can use stock sizes as it would potentially save you a fair amount of money.

I will be there....be good to see how the biscuit tin does around a track. Will have to get some new tyres though, will anywhere do a good discount on a group purchase?

Jinx! I was going to say buy a set of track wheels but then I forgot about your brakes. Don't you just have the big brakes on the front?? You could go for the standard 15s on the rear.

Or go for the Nankangs, I got over 15k miles on a rear set I had on my first turbo and their grip is ok in the dry but absolutely atrocious in the wet.

I have about 4 sets of wheels for my car. 14'' standard wheels that won't fit anymore since I have bigger brakes, standard 15' rev 2 wheels with 4 brand new Dunlop SP Sports on 205/60/15 for trackdays/drift events and erm messing and then I have the 15' Rev 4 polished wheels with a set of Dunlop slicks they run on the RT2000s here in Mondello that I got free!!. Good god the car is like rails on the slicks, nigh on impossible to lose the rear in them unless they're cold.

Oh and the 16' Enkeis that you seen already. Shame I can't go but i'm sure you'll have loads of fun without me! (Make sure you let JJ past if you see him behind you  )

Moral of the story, you can never have too many wheels! Maybe keep an eye out on FDUK since RX7s have the same fitment as MR2s for a spare set of 17s.

Pete

PS Mitch, mind Neil doesn't creep into your room in the middle of the night to take some photos!

No, have a 325mm big disc kit and some splendid brackets to mount the rear calipers on :)

The worrying thing with nankangs is that its very likely to be wet at the end of Jan - pretty big risk and I probably wont ever use them again :( really only want to use the day as high speed car control practice :thumleft:

I am tempted by some Kumho 712's - know anything about them?

I will do, although I suspect that I will be trailing him around elvington :)

I used to have 245/35's on my old 8" rims, 40's shouldn't be an issue.
