were not saying a 40 is the right choice, just saying its an option......
if you went for a 235, then a 40 would be closer to stock rr i believe......(i think)
ok, well I decided to matters into my own hands...
Just measured my stock 15" rims on stock tyre sizes. I've compared them with the tyre calculator stig found, and they measure the same - awesome find mate
The results, based on a 17" rim with 7j front and 8j rear:
Front confirmed closest size to stock: 215/40/17
Rear confirmed closest size to stock: 245/35/17
If you use a 235 width, your still better with a 35 profile than a 40, although there's only 4mm in it.
Incidentally, for the fronts, a 205/40/17 is exactly the same dimension as stock to the mm!
If you use different sizes you will affect gearing, acceleration, fuel consumption and top speed
