Do you read Retro Cars magazine? It's full of 60s/70s/80s modified, used and abused motors. There's a staple diet of RWD Escorts, Chevettes, TR7/8s.... as well as the odd bizarre Jap - there are a couple of cool Datsun Violets in this months issue.

I really like what you're doing to your red Mk1. It's good to see an honest restoration job like yours whilst most members "mess about" with their cars, creating monstrosities in the process!

When it's finished we should get together for a photoshoot. An early red Mk1 and an early red MkII! Might be worth giving one of the glossies a call?

It's my car's birthday next week - 15 years old!

Hiya Peter,

Yes i have read retro cars, it was funny as the first issue i bought had an old friend of mine with his V8 Firenza in it! I haven't bought it for a while (mainly because my long suffering moans if i 'waste money' on car mags).

Cheers about the restoration stuff. I guess i've done pretty much everything MK1 wise except restore a car and i guess that my views have changed a bit and i now really like the early car/classic thing. I think i've still got a few things to find before the car is ready for pics, though i'm slowly getting there. Yep we should do a mini-photo shoot at some point, we just need an early red MK3 now! :)

Speaking of classic jap motors, did anyone else see those datsun 280z's last year at japfest (cc), damn they were shifting, until they got to tower corner! With those big 75 proflie types and floppy suspension, going round on their door handles, loads of Hollywood tyre sream, no grip, adding a bit of sideways, looked a bit of a giggle!
I looked at one in the pits, big muther straight six, 3 twin down draughts, with a huge throttle bar.
Mint, what classics, i'd forgot there were such classics about, only ever thinking of sweeny Granada's etc.

Ok some of you youngsters might not get it, but its just like your chavalier, but better!

Stu,

I love those old Z cars. Don't forget that they are cruisers and weren't designed to be thrown round race tracks.

I've noticed myself (at the grand age of 31) using less revs, wishing for more low down torque, slowing down for corners... wishing I had a big lazy GT.

One of the reasons I sold my 911 was because it was effectively a larger, more expensive (!), more powerful MR2 type car. I wouldn't mind a 928 now, at £3k they won't get much cheaper! Or maybe an XJS. 6 series (old skool) BMW anyone? Or if we're talking dream cars how about a Lamborghini Espada? Drool.

Oh, and one last thing Stu - please don't compare proper classics to modern Chavmobiles!!!

Too right - most of them are utter lies, and the rest are just dull. Versus posts should be deleted IMO.
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

Peter C, I thought you swapped your MR2 for a Porsche? Or have I got it wrong?

6 series (old skool) BMW anyone?

Your the first one to point out a true classic there !! My dad had a new one years ago when I was a kid and what a car !!! :D This is back in 1984 !! Boy I loved it... but it was traded in for a conservative car with 4 doors ! Roller Silver shadow !! :D Pimp car - loads of presents but wasn't a scratch on the beemer.

I've always been on the hunt for one of the last highline models... the M635CSi would be nice but almost impossible to find .. now thats a proper german drifting tool if I ever saw one !! 8)

I had a 6 month affair with a 911 Carrera 2 last year. I kept the MR2, since sold the 911, bought a house and my other car is now a Ford Sierra estate.

Lucky git! My dad's best car has been a Volvo estate! :(
