How can they justify that price when Tesco puts out 99 at less than a quid?

The old leaded petrol was 100+ and didnt cost that much.

I'm told if you dont have a cat you can run leaded fuel and some places apparently still sell it?

I wouldn't, it's something to do with the valve seats. The lead would wear them away or something like that.

The Lead prevented valve seat erosion I believe, new engines have hardened valve seats to deal with UL..

The Leaded fuel will do your Oxy sensor no favors though..

Parting thought, BP102, Wonder how well this stuff ages in the tank? - it's not like any of these stations are going to be selling loads of it..

What I find so amazing is that people think that by filling up with this stuff, they are going to gain power :?

You need to have a different map, which will obviously suit some people on here with Motec or other aftermarket management, but for your run of the mill Rev 3 running a bar of boost, it isn't going to make any difference, except lighten your wallet.

not strictly true... the standard ECU's are programmed for Jap fuel - over 100ron :-k - so our standard lower octane fuel means less power and more det

with 102 I would imagine you could tweak a little more agressive on the timing too and still not see as much det

Techinically you will get more power. Or for want of a better phrase - you'll find power you lost through not having proper fuel.

With lesser fuel's the ecu will automatically retard timing losing you power. With better fuel it'll be less intrusive letting you see better potential.

This was proven on 5th gear in quite drastic fashion on a Jap spec Scooby STi.

I can quite clearly feel a difference between Ultimate 97 and Tesco extra value rocket fuel.

Well they have knock sensors that react to knock by pulling timing if thats what you mean?

I'm in the dark here on this one.......

They actually have knock sensors, as opposed to CPS/Phase sensor combos?

Nope, proper knock sensors that screw into the block that are linked directly to the ECU.

just put half a tanks worth of 102ron bp fuel in my car and my butt dyno tells me the car is definately quicker, the back end was starting to lose traction in 2nd gear under hard accelleration,it also feels more responsive a bit like driving on a freezing winters day.My knock readings are playing up at the moment normally no matter what I do they normally max at about 45 but lately while poodling along I've hit 60 and I'm only driving on part throttle and 0.5bar of boost,I then floor the car at 1.2bar of boost and get a knock of 40,so something not quite right there, hopefully be remapped this week. With the 102 ron fuel I still get the odd spike on the knock upto 60 when I'm driving gently, but under full throttle high boost Knock has dropped down to roughly 25 which is quite a big drop.
If BP keep this fuel available long term then I may have to invest in a motec ecu so I can have a map especially for this fuel as I think it's good stuff,in the mean time I'll use this fuel every other time I need to fill up.

Couldn't you get more power when running 102RON by upping boost a bit ?

Only if you match the fuel to the boost other wise you'll run lean

You can now buy the Apexi Excell software,so i think you'd be able to download various maps to your PFC.
