The video below has filament bulbs on the left and 4xCree 20W red bulbs on the right:

As you can see, the LEDs are about on a par with the filament bulbs in brightness, just respond quicker as an LED would. To go behind something tinted, you will certainly want something brighter again :thumleft:

I once tried some cheap 27x5050 SMD LED bulbs and they simply weren't anywhere near good enough even in standard rev3 lenses...

Is it duel fitment like my setup now? i.e. for light light up for night lights and braking?

What I meant was each bulb has 4 Cree LEDs on. (Still only one bulb per lens) I have similar indicator bulbs with 5 Cree Q5 LEDs on each bulb and they do a great job :thumleft:

The Cree LEDs (such as the Q5) are on another level compared to the 5050 LEDs... one Cree LED throws out more light than 10-15 5050 LEDs.

I've just ordered these 50W 10xCree LED bulbs... I'll report back when I can: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151603770796

What's up with the random OP bashing on every thread? I don't get this place its like a witch hunt sometimes.

I think the lightly tinted look on that silver one looks superb!

One of my fave mr2 I saw was a rev 2 black with black tinter lights - looked very cool.

I guess you could ask someone to Photoshop it up for you?

The reason is there are a lot of sheep within the MR2 community I have found, one person slags off a post and the majority follow.

Personally i don't like threads like 'im thinking of doing this' 'what do you think of this, that or the other?' If i want to change the look of my car i don't ask people opinions, i just do it.

Agreed - but there's a lot to be said on asking IMHO. For example, if it were me and I was tinting my lights I'd now look into lightly tinting the insides instead of film..... Always good to ask and get different opinions and results of what others have already tried!

This is a good post i got genuine replys with problems and solutions guys everyone to tinting the rear lights better then me doing something and then regreting it later... but anyway i think i will do anyway as it looked nice on my evo and to be honest it wont make much difference as the tint is the very light and will still look oem.

Chavy i can never be that! maybe chingy... and thought chavy is are fords, corsa, nova's never a mr2

Oh no bet some one gonna find a chavy mr2 where i cant disagree thats its gonna be chavy...

There are two different sets of objections in this thread; one set is based on taste and can be ignored. However the other is based on safety and should not be dismissed so easily.

Those on MR2OC will know I'm refurbing an undisclosed set of wheels that will completely change the look of my car. Because the design of wheel and the colour I'm painting them is only a matter of taste, they are remaining secret because I can't be bothered with people telling not to do something just because they don't like it. However there are things I am discussing, such as the quality required in replacement split-rim bolts, because they are related to safety.

Decreasing the effectiveness of your brake lights is a safety issue and needs to be highlighted, alongside potential solutions. There are, however, diplomatic ways of saying something is not to your taste...

Well I said I'd check back... here's a video with one of those 10xCree LED bulbs in the very right hand lens. It's clearly brighter :thumleft:

MOT friendly or friendly MOT? Because your heavily tinted reflectors must be in breach of design and use regulations... although, technically, so are my retrofit LED bulbs!

Interesting post Shinny.

It's a job to judge on the video, but do those cree lamps give the even spread you normally get from filament lamps, without the sort of hot spot in the middle that seems to usually come with leds?
