The Aase brothers went 218mph in a '91 MR2 turbo at Bonneville.

They still hold the record to this day set 23 years ago averaging 211mph on the two runs (203mph + 218mph) in the G/BGT class.

this would only be good for a top speed run.
off the line, it would be pretty darn slow.

cool though. i saw this pic like 10years ago! its probably even older than that.

the K20 mr2 is probably the fastest mr2 at this moment.

im not sure how nathan frekes (previous 1/4 world record holder) would have compared?? close maybe to the K20?

My final drive is a 3.93 has been changed not sure what will work out to top speed but please let me know you u know ;)

I had a 3.93 fd on an e153 for a while, it gives you an extra 9%. Bear in mind you will probably need over 300bhp to break 160.

Mine has seen about 150, but using 5th not 6th (5th tops out at ~180), and was done on a straight flat section of autobahn without side winds. 150 felt about as stable as 120, but the world goes past very quickly.

Our 6 speed 2gr swaps have a "theoretical" 220mph top speed, which i don't think would ever be possible due to aero/tyres etc, but on paper that is what the maths suggests for a given RPM/6th ratio.

Assuming are tyres available in MR2 friendly sizes that would cope with 220MPH, how much power would an MR2 need to actually get there?

look at other cars that can achieve that sort of speeds - zonda F, enzo, xj220, bug eb110 - all more slippery and stable at speed than an mr2 and have 600+bhp, and are capable of holding it together for prolonged periods.
